Calm down junior. Ric Flair was a damn good athlete in his day. He would routinely wrestle hour long matches. Yes it's scripted, but it's not at all easy.

To be fair, I said I was looking for sports athletes/figures and people who were icons. Ric Flair is arguably the most famous wrestler ever, and wrestling at one time was very popular. He was also kind of a cultural icon of the US in the 70s and 80s. There might be better options but I dont think he is a bad one tbh

No Larry Hamilton for Missouri ?
For Pete's sake he was The Missouri Mauler.
Everyone knows that !
His little brother Jody was of course, The Assassin.

Bo Jackson is the most overrated sports figure of the 20th Century. And it's not close. Dude had 16 TDs in the NFL in 4 seasons. That aint shite.
At first I wondered if it was mostly because Bo played partial seasons, splitting time with baseball.
Pro Football Reference has it covered with their "17 game average" stat.
Bo's 17 game average:
Yards: 1245
Rushing TDs: 7
Receiving yards: 157
Receiving TDs: 1
Bo had some amazing runs (Every year but one he had the longest rush from scrimmage - 91 yards in 1987, 92 yards in 1989, 88 yards in 1990); however, this makes it seem a bit worse as each of those plays accounted for over 10% of his total yards for the season each year.
For contrast, here is Derrick Henry's 17 game averages:
Yards: 1446
Rushing TDs: 14
Receiving yards: 200
Receiving TDs: 1
So Bo was not that far off Henry's 17 game average, but WAY behind in generating points. I think this is because Bo seemed more dependent on the big play.
Case in point:
In his rookie season, on 81 attempts he gained 554 yards for a 6.8 average; without the big 91 yard run that's 463 yards on 80 plays - a 5.8 average. In his final season (1990), his ypc average drops from 5.6 to 4.9 without his one big run.
Those runs still count and still showed his potential, but it seems outside of the occasional big run Bo was mostly just... average. Certainly not the unstoppable force Tecmo Bowl seemed to think he was.

Seems to me that Bo didn’t get the ball down near the goal line.

Jim Brown was born in Georgia. He is worthy of making the list.

Bo Jackson is the greatest athlete who ever lived. Fight me.

Tennessee’s is Johnny Majors. Imagine if Cignetti dropped it all and left Indiana for his struggling Alma Mater. Not mention Johnny should have won the Heisman while at UT

I’m going to call foul on Ric Flair (Tennessee). I get that your list was sports icons but let’s not pretend like that form of wrestling is legitimate sport. I get that it’s athletes but they are performing in a scripted drama.

Someone would need to do some serious research or find a site with analytics done for historical seasons to determine if that's the case or not.

Bo shared the backfield with Marcus Allen, one of the all time NFL greats. Pretty impressive to show up late and still steal carries from a 6-time Pro Bowler. Allen was also a league MVP, Super Bowl MVP, and Rookie of the Year.
Ya'll can do a deep dive on stats and situational carries, but pro football was just a hobby for Bo.

Obviously not the SEC, but for WV I'd go with Jerry West and Nick Saban. Honorable mention to Mary Lou Retton.

You can take your analysis and bag it. Anyone who watched that man participate in a sporting event knew that he was operating on a different level than his alleged peers.
