If you’ve ever driven through Crawford, MS, and blinked, you missed it. Unfortunately, I have several times. Crazy that the greatest WR of all time came from there.

I agree although Mickey Mantle would be a lot of States #1.

Great idea for a counter argument, FireDanMullen. Defend Hitler and slam the USA. You may want to rethink this line of argument.

Since you left of Missouri - I would probably say Yogi Berra.

Jim Thorpe was actually born in "Indian Territory" if that matters.
It was that long ago....
He was universally considered the best American athlete of the first half of the 20th century... which is amazing considering the exploits of the Jesse Owens' and such.
However when Thorpe played... all athletics were really primitive.
Mantle played enough later that sports had evolved and athletes were beginning to be highly skilled.

But as a non aryan winning gold in Berlin at a games meant to show off Germany's might he did indeed give him the finger so to speak and I addressed your point in my post if you'd bother to read instead of firing up your little outrage machine. But you go on defending Hitler clown.

Good catch...it does say "best sports figure", but I was thinking "Best Athlete" when I was looking at the lists.

Because Arkansas football was just as bad then as they are now.
The St. Louis Cardinals was more popular than the razorbacks.
Fayetteville was isolated and very hard to get to.
