Ali is a good due to the popularity but I'd argue Mary T. Meagher is up there as well.
I know a lot about sports and I've never heard of this person
Granted, women's swimming isn't really my forte.

I admire your dedication to a cause. Sadly that cause is Nazism. But don’t let me interrupt your digging.

Bo Jackson is the most overrated sports figure of the 20th Century. And it's not close. Dude had 16 TDs in the NFL in 4 seasons. That aint shite.
He is the only player in history to win a Heisman trophy and play in both the NFL and MLB for 3+ seasons. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry in the NFL. That is better than Emmitt Smith (4.2), Walter Payton (4.4), Derrick Henry (4.9), Barry Sanders (5.0), Eric Dickerson (4.4), Jim Brown (5.2) and O.J. Simpson (4.7). Bo Jackson’s average yards per carry is higher than any NFL hall of fame running back except Marion Motley, who played in the AAFC and NFL in the 1940s and 1950s. Bo’s career was too short to be considered an all time great. But in his prime he was the best in the game. Tecmo Bowl agrees.

This will get you laughing, along with whoever else has ever heard a Cardinals game on the radio.
Awhile back one of the local sports stations was trying to figure out the greatest male athlete to ever come from the STL area, and the answer they came up with was Mike Shannon.
He was first team all state in high school in four sports, and MU coaches have said in the past if he would have stuck with playing football at Mizzou instead of going to MLB he would have been a Heisman candidate.

Unreal the sports figures you could pick (that were top tier in their sports) from Alabama.
The Mobile walk of fame downtown alone would be sufficient enough and then add the entire state. Crazy.

16 total TDs in 4 seasons. 4 RBs in the NFL had at least that many last year alone.

It is surprising he had that many.
He never played a full season and split carries with a future hall of fame running back. He basically showed up in week four to six with no camp and no practice. But he was physically gifted enough he just showed up and played.
He was able to do things most others simply couldn’t. Like playing professional football and baseball at the same time. Playing two sports really hurt him become a true great at either. But playing two sports also showed how great he was at sports.
