Gotta count for something. You can’t praise Ray Lewis for being the head of the Ravens defense while simultaneously diminishing Hightower for doing the exact same thing in New England. This isn’t true. What led to NIL was a UCLA basketball player named Ed O’Bannon noticing in his college days that his likeness was being used on promotional material like video games and not being paid for it. He went decades through legal roadblocks until 7 years ago when it went to Supreme Court and the decision went overwhelmingly in his favor.

NIL is solely because some random, mid basketball player from UCLA is pissed his dumb arse wasn’t getting a little money in college the easy way. Saban was just the low hanging fruit. It all started in the 90s.
