It's Master's week. Got to learn to enjoy watching golf in the dead season. For us old guys, it is the only sport where you can take a decent nap and then wake up and you've only missed half the sporting event. :)

I miss our games as well. One of the most exciting SEC games of the 1980s and 90s, and even in the 2000s.
My pastor here in Mobile is a huge Gator fan. Represents you guys very well, but his sermons are much more "fire and brimstone" when you lose. Obviously rooting for my Tigers, but will look forward to a nice happy sermon if you win. :)
Rooting for the winner of our game in the title game, regardless of who wins. War Eagle!

1 like and 75 dislikes. I think the Rant disagrees with you.
Seriously, this is a troll post. You can argue about a lot of things, but saying Bo and Herschel were slow is too far. They were the most incredible running backs in football history, bar none. I am happy to be old enough to have seen both in person.

Auburn got very close in 1998. Got to number 2. That was a great team under Cliff Ellis.

Not crazy about this, but yes, you are correct. Maybe the Aggie fans won't root for you, but for most of the rest of us you guys are our rep in the playoffs. Good luck to your Longhorns!

This is one of the biggest BS statements I have seen on the Rant. You make Bama fans look bad with this kind of statement. Pompous and wrong. All because you didn't want to cede a point from the poster that your "little brother" is having a good year in state for now.
Silly.

I can't believe how basketball in the State of Alabama has changed. I was a 1993 grad from Auburn, and our biggest guy was a 6 foot 5 guy named Chris Brandt. Not sure we won more than 4 SEC games a year while I was there, and the students flat out didn't go to the games (although in our defense we were pretty awful post-Barkley and our arena was the worst). We had some decent seasons since, but only a couple. Bama had a few better seasons than us, but always seemed to lose momentum and fall back to mediocre.
Pearl and Oats have really changed things for both schools. Lots of basketball left to the played, so obviously everything could go south, but gotta feel good about beating Houston early. SEC as a whole looks pretty good this year!

But then you wouldn't have had the Kick Six. I know you are a Bama fan and on the losing end, but that was one of the greatest moments in College Football. :nana:

2013 National Title game. Just hang on for about 30 seconds after we scored our last TD to go ahead and Auburn wins its third national title, and its second in three years.
That one was tough to swallow, but I have to admit that was the most fun Auburn team I have ever watched.

My Tigers are going to be tough to watch this year. AU is going to be up and down all year--you just don't know what will happen any given Saturday.
I think Auburn matches well with Arkansas, so I'm picking a win this weekend, but it will probably be ugly.

re: Auburn, what is the expectation of our game this weekend?

I have a feeling it will be a pretty competitive game between two mid-tier SEC teams. Auburn has to run the ball pretty well to win--QB is raw and young and not ready to carry the team on his shoulders. My best guess is that both teams will score a lot of points and it will go all the way to the fourth quarter before someone pulls it out. Hopefully will be an exciting game to watch!
re: which former division foe do you miss playing the most this year?

Really going to miss the Auburn/LSU game. There have been some pretty memorable ones in the past 30 years. But I am happy that we will get to play Florida and Tennessee a bit more frequently. I went to Auburn in the 1980s when we played both every year (I think!).
re: Loudest play in your stadiums history?
Posted by AUTseed on 8/22/24 at 10:29 am
Auburn has a lot of them because we have won so many games over the decades I've been watching them in last minute "miracle" fashion. Had two amazingly loud "moments" in 2013 with the Kick Six and Prayer at Jordan Hare (and the latter of two was probably the loudest).
Surprisingly though, the loudest specific moment I ever witnessed was the Auburn Florida game in 1989. Came down to the last 30 seconds, when Reggie Slack his Shane Wasden in the endzone for the go ahead score. I think it may have even been 4th down. To this day, I still can't tell you how Wasden got so open in the endzone. Crowd absolutely erupted over that play, because Florida had really beat us up on defense all day long.

Auburn had two of the greatest back to back. Jim Fyffe and Rod Bramblett. Go back and listen to Rod's commentary at the end of the Iron Bowl 2013 and you'll get chills, unless you are a Bama fan. Both were 100% Auburn homers, kind of like Larry Munson for Georgia, and their love of Auburn showed in everything they did.
Rod had a hard time filling Jim's shoes, but he found his voice eventually. Miss them both. Our current guy is just OK, but I'm giving him time to grow into the role.

re: In a street fight what SEC fan base wins ?

I had an 85 year old grandmother throw a piece of chicken in my face and challenge me to a fight in 1989 in Athens, all for yelling its great to be an Auburn Tiger on my way back to the car after the game. As much as it pains me to say it as an AU fan, I take Georgia fans in a street fight. With LSU fans a close second.
They are also number one and two for fans I can't stand the most, btw...

re: First Game, best game, & worst game
Posted by AUTseed on 6/3/24 at 3:17 pm
First game was Auburn/Ole Miss in 1985. Got to watch Bo Jackson at his finest.
Best SEC Game I saw in person was Auburn/LSU in 1997 in Baton Rouge. Cecil Collins ran for about 1 million yards, but somehow Auburn stayed in the game, and then LSU decided to pass on fourth and 2 with about a minute left and the TE dropped the ball. And then Auburn scored a TD in the last minute. Been to more memorable games, including 2013 AU Georgia and many Iron Bowls, but that one was just a damn good ball game between two good teams that really wanted to win.
Worst SEC game was Auburn/Arkansas in 2012. Watched our QB go back in the pocket on a play and the OL gave him about 11 or 12 seconds to throw the ball. And he just looked downfield and took the sack. Defense quit after that play, and in reality our season was over.

I've always wanted to see Auburn play Notre Dame. Still surprised we have never played them, even in a bowl game.

That's twice from LSU fans today. Got on the elevator at my office with an LSU guy in full LSU gear. Told him "Well I guess I should say War Eagle," and he literally turned to me and said "F*** Auburn." I'm an old guy, so I just laughed. But he was probably early 20s and looked like he was ready to fight...
I am going to miss this game when we don't get to play you every year.

For us older guys who grew up watching football in the 70s and 80s, the top two are Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson, period, regardless of what stats you put up. Only question is which one to put first.
I used to love watching those two guys run the football.
So much speed and power. Still get nostalgic watching the old videos.

re: How would you rate this CFP game?
Posted by AUTseed on 1/13/22 at 8:12 am
I'm in my 50s, so I'm a little more old school about football, and a good defensive battle is fun to watch for me. Both these teams were going after each other in the first half. Watching it break open on offense in the second half was fun as well. So from an objective standpoint, I thought it was a good game to watch. Better than all the NC blowouts from the past 10 years, so Top 3 at least.
Only bad thing about the game is that I'm an Auburn fan, and I wanted both teams to lose. :) Congratulations on your title. I know you guys are happy to have that monkey off your back.
