Bowls FORMERLY were fun to watch - competitive post season matchups of teams that normally don’t play each other.

Now, with opt-outs, bowl season is a joke.

The playoff expansion once again makes these bowls meaningful games.

How can you not want that as a college football fan?

If you want to watch the NFL watch the NFL.

Because people want everything and nothing at the same time.

Because the playoffs were watered down with 4 teams. Now we’re at 24 with inevitable blowouts

This isn't even the NFL. They're competitive enough for a 16 field to be entertaining. A 24 team field in college is ridiculous.

Can't wait for a first round James Madison/UNLV matchup!

Because I look forward to Saturdays from September-November.

Those "big game Saturdays" are going away. The most consequential matchups will now be played by the 18th and 30th best teams.

In other words: it's fricking gay.

Because it just further waters down the regular season. I always use the 2005 Notre Dame–USC game as an example. That game exceeded the hype and, despite being played in October, essentially decided who would play Texas for the national title. That game would literally mean nothing today with a 24-team playoff. Both teams would not only make the playoff, but also receive a bye.

Yet March Madness is arguably the best tournament in sports.

Doesn’t make the regular basketball season meaningless (the SEC tournament manages to do that).

Exactly. All these people complaining about the 24-team playoff killing college football are the same people who will complain about two teams having half their rosters opt out to see someone get Mayo dumped all over them.

I'd rather watch an SMU team play Tennessee at home, where the stakes do mean something than that. Even without the playoff being expanded, bowl season was destroyed. It doesn't mean anything anymore.

Meaningless? No.

Less interesting and lower stakes? 100% yes.

2 completely different sports.

College basketballs regular season is 3x college football. This just diminishes the regular season importance by about 30% which is sad. Now 8-4 gets you in the playoffs. Congrats

This will not give Aggie a better chance at winning it all...just more laughs when they get beat by someone like Wake Forest

Nobody gives a crap about bowl season, people give a crap about the regular season though.

How many regular season NFL games can you actually remember? A small handful. How many college football regular season games can you actually remember? A shite ton.

College football used to have the most exciting, interesting regular season in all of sports. No sport had games with as much weight as college football did.

In the BCS era a single loss usually was enough to torpedo your season. Even in the 4 team playoff losing a game was extremely risky.

Top 10 games mean almost nothing in the 24 team playoff world other than adjusting the seeding a little. Who f'ing cares.

College football will become nothing more than an extremely uninteresting regular season followed by a big tournament that everyone will watch much like college basketball.

Exactly. I mean would you rather watch 9-3 Mizzou go the CFP or the Music City Bowl?

Plus, we have to recognize that seeding will be important under this model. The Ohio States and the Georgias will not be content with a 22-seed that forces you to go on the road in the first two rounds.

Dilution of the regular season.
Injuries changing championships.
Horrible mismatches.

MBAs are treating CFB like it’s March madness to maximize profits but it’s a fundamentally different sport and outside of degenerate gamblers the sport is worse off for it.

The difference between team 24 and team 2 in CFB is so wide it’s hard to quantify.

Kills the last thing college football had over all other sports… regular season relevance.
