A company I was working for acquired another company, like 45 minutes away. They tried to transfer a large team of like 12 people to the new location to help on board them. Bout 6 of them quit, I was one of them

Absolutely. They know these rising prices are killing their sales, but they have no choice. It's just a really, really terrible time to be selling gaming hardware.

I think we are too late into the console life cycle for GTA6 to drive demand anymore.

Mostly because anyone that excited for GTA6 almost certainly HAS a current gen console already I would think.

GTA6 def would have been a major system mover had it come out earlier in the life cycle.

Another reason consoles have traditionally dropped in price as they age is not only because the tech got cheaper but also to reach people who have been sitting on the fence lukewarm about it.

You're now asking someone who has passed on a PS5 for like 6 years to suddenly buy one at the highest price its ever been.

Having a handful of women or gays on the staff quietly doing their job is not a problem.

Rounding them all up like cattle for a photo-op so you can virtue signal about their existence speaks to a cultural rot of a doomed company. Allowing them significant input on what the games should look and play like, suicide.

If you were selling AIDS medication or double sided dildos you could probably get away with this, but when your customer base is 90%+ straight males who mostly find this stuff cringe or flat out repulsive, it tells me everything I need to know about the decision making, and it's clear where the ship is headed.

For AI slop it's actually pretty dang well made, a lot of attention to detail, anyone familiar with the original RE 1, 2, and 0 as well as the remakes, lotta good stuff.

The only sane reason you'd pay someone 800k is if you genuinely thought they were going to generate more than that in additional profit.

That is because you aren't getting "the game" on the disk. Often times, the disk includes only a portion of the game, and you have to download the rest. In other instances, there is almost always a day one patch that fixes performance issues, bugs, etc. Over time, new features are added, bugs are fixed, etc.

It's not like when you buy a movie or an album and you get the final version of the content.

You are correct the PS3 generation was the last generation where the actual disc is going to contain a coherent, playable game completely offline most of the time.

However the disc still has value even without the binaries in that it allows you to resale or trade the game, and it prevents your game from ever being revoked from your account or whatever. Even at it's worst it's a "get to download the game without purchasing it" token.

They want to kill off the resell market and also be able to bully people with bans more aggressively.

This info started going around today, lots of articles talking about it, people are all flabbergasted because that would have made her one of the highest paid employees in the entire company of 6,000 people. I'd love to hear what her ex-coworkers are saying right about now.

Yeah I absolutely hate this. I know the disc in the box is usually obsolete in a hurry thanks to huge patches and such, but having a disc allows you to at least have the license portable. A download code is a one time digital purchase and still inferior to a disc, which you can still buy and trade.

It sounds like they are going to release a disc version at some point though... at least I hope so.

The doomers are all saying this going to be the end of discs period, if GTA 6 can get away with it this might become the norm. Physical diehards are now a small enough group they can ignore us.

I wanna say both GTAV and RDR2 both had their online components added in post release as well, for RDR2 I'm sure of it. So this seems pretty likely.

It's a probably good idea IMO, a lot of people would probably skip the campaign and just dive right into online and this way they'll actually play it.

Plus this gives you an entirely 2nd round of release hype when you launch the online mode later and you'll see another huge surge in sales at that time.
