First round matches are already rather boring. Adding more teams is going to make that worse. If anything, 12 is too many teams.

This isn't the NFL. What made College Football great was the Regular season.

So you think a #4 ranked team out of 130+ teams is undeserving of making the post season? In what universe are you talking about? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

I do not think they are as deserving as the #2 team.

The #4 team is usually perfectly deserving of playing for its conference championship and a major bowl, which both seemed to matter quite a lot before the playoff became everything anyone talked about.

Here’s the top 25 right now - and I get a 24-team playoff wouldn’t be just from the top 25 - but it would include the majority of these teams.

Tell me honestly as a college football fan you wouldn’t watch a post season tournament with these matchups.

So you don't think a team ranked #5 could win the playoff, or deserved to be in the playoff, or what here? College football has had blowouts with only 2 teams making the "playoff." Exactly what do you mean Peter?

I said exactly what I meant. 4 teams was enough. I'm not saying the #5 team can't win it, but they don't deserve to be in the playoffs because it's a season long play. Not who gets healthy or lucky in the playoffs.

Not talked about enough.

For example, March Madness is a great, entertaining tournament, but a shitty method for deciding who the actual “best” team is.

Because championships were only part of college football. College football is about regionality, its about beating your rival, its about the pageantry of a blustery fall Saturday morning, its was so much more than ratings and playoffs. If you like pro sports where the only thing that matters is playoff seeding then thats fine, go watch the NFL. Thats not what college football is about and a lot of people have either forgotten that or never got to experience it in the first place so they dont know what they are giving up.

People have such short memories. Bama fans were the worst at complaining about moving to a 12 team playoff, and also cried the most when they didn't make the top 12. It was pretty amazing at the mental gymnastics you guys were trying to pull that year.

At the end of the day, there are too many teams that don't play one another to get a true idea of who the top teams are, so including more teams and doing away with the shitty bowl system is a win in my opinion.

There will be less opting out by top players and good teams have a much less chance of being passed over to have a shot at the title.

Also teams can schedule more difficult opponents for their non-conference games and still have a good chance of making the post season with the expansion ot 24. Boosters and fans don't want a home schedule that is full of nobodies.

It doesn't water down the regular season. Everyone said the same when it went to 4 and then 12, yet look at all the Bama vs Georgia threads about Saturday's game. The regular season still matters and will always matter.

You guys are fricking crazy.
Before the playoffs your team pretty much had to go undefeated and have a decent sos if you wanted a chance at being crowned national champions, so yeah it did water things down a bit. That said, the 4 team playoff meant you still had to win your conference to have a chance to get in, but it was still possible with one loss. With the 24 team playoff we'll see several teams with 3 losses, and some years even 4 loss teams get in. How is that not watering things down and making the regular season no longer do or die like it was before? That was the ONE thing CFB had over every other sport, and it was still 95% there with the 4 team playoff...but diminishes with each expansion. Coaches with back to back to back playoff appearances won't be safe from being on the hotseat if they can't progress to win it all.

Quoting for emphasis. I grew up cheering for some pretty average Georgia teams and got addicted anyway because of things that have nothing to do with winning the national championship.

I agree 100%. I don’t see why playoffs diminish that at all. Regular season is about you and your rivals -

None of that has or will change. Everyone said going to 12 teams would change that, yet look at the Bama and Georgia fans going back and forth about their game this past weekend. What about LSU at Ole Miss, or even unranked UF at unranked Auburn earlier this season? Those games were insane!

If the SEC gets an automatic 8 teams in I am fine.

But now you have horrible teams from each conference thrown in.

SOS now means Jack shite. Throw that stat out.

They’ve spent the last 15 years blowing up conferences and traditional matchups with reckless abandon.

Bowls FORMERLY were fun to watch - competitive post season matchups of teams that normally don’t play each other.

Now, with opt-outs, bowl season is a joke.

The playoff expansion once again makes these bowls meaningful games.

How can you not want that as a college football fan?

I don't understand why people are complaining about more football.

This dramatically affects and further diminishes the absolute importance of the regular season in paving the way to a NC…which is supposed to be incredibly hard.

In 2007, USC was a 41 point favorite at home vs Stanford and lost. It mattered..it killed USC’s NC hopes….as it should have.

It would not matter at all now.

Just watch…Coaches will start resting dinged up players late in the regular season in preparation for the playoffs.

It’s fricking stupid and sucks.

Meaningless? No.

Less interesting and lower stakes? 100% yes.

Well if yours is a middling program, like LSU or Ole Miss, you need those lower stakes. In fact, you have to have them.
