They will have to get past France to get to the semifinals

And the Dutch in the quarters as well.

Does Germany have a decent chance of winning the WC or are they a complete long shot?

I wouldn’t say a decent chance. They’re Germany, so they still have a ton of talent, but there’s too many issues and question marks at the moment to see them winning the entire thing.

People who will watch Germany > People who will watch Ecuador.

Germany are already through as group winners, the result means nothing for them, so why would FIFA care that more people will tune in for Germany as opposed to Ecuador?

Books, laptops, tutors, food, housing, chance to go pro, what is wrong with that?

This argument would carry more weight if we were still operating under the same conditions as in the 80s-90s. Back then, the top football programs generated around $1 million a year in TV revenue. Head coaches made low/mid six figures, and most assistants were earning mid five figures. Therefore, a college athlete receiving a full scholarship, and everything that came along with being a student athlete, was considered a pretty good deal.

Fast forward to today, and Big Ten schools will be receiving $80-100 million annually in TV revenue. Currently, coordinators, and even some position coaches, are earning over $1 million a year. It's unreasonable to expect coaches salaries to increase by such large amounts while players are not expected to ask for a piece of the pie.

If I’m Michigan, I’d 100% ask Beilein to come back as interim for a year. It’s going to be tough to find a permanent replacement in June.

Only won two and both of those were by a goal that was scored in second half injury time.

Three for three. Remarkable how they always seem to find a way.
What a terrible shot. Should have been the winner

but someone has to move on.

They’re both pretty much guaranteed to move on. This German performance shouldn’t be a huge surprise, they’ve played like crap in most of their second group stage matches in every World Cup this century. Only won ticket and both of those were by a goal that was scored in second half injury time.
Are we talking all-time? If so, I’ll nominate Sal Sunseri. If Tennessee just had an average defense in 2012, they would have won 9 games.

Their best teams just beat you down with fundamentals.

Their best teams just beat people down with talent. Compare this roster to the squad that won in ‘14. It’s not fundamentals that’s they’re missing.

Where does the Gus firing rank amongst the sec’s worst firings? Vols were a door mat for a long time after fulmer was canned.

Fulmer wasn’t a bad firing, the coaches who came after him were just bad hires. Fulmer had two losing seasons in his last four years, made multiple poor staff hires, and signed recruiting classes ranked outside the top 25 in two of his final three seasons. He lost at least three games in each of his last seven seasons, compared to just three such seasons in his first nine. Tennessee hadn’t won an SEC title in a decade and hadn’t been to a BCS bowl in nine years. His dismissal was more than deserved.

Turkey are never going to score
12 years ago this was the scoreline of a WC semifinal. I still can’t comprehend that result.
That had been coming. They were close on 2-3 previous corners.
