It's going to suck the first time Texas beats A&M and then turns around and loses to them in the first round, or vice versa.

But that will probably be pretty rare. All in all I think it'll be pretty cool but it does diminish the "I get to enjoy this win for a year" aspect of the regular season rivalry games.

Because the playoffs were watered down with 4 teams. Now we’re at 24 with inevitable blowouts

So you don't think a team ranked #5 could win the playoff, or deserved to be in the playoff, or what here? College football has had blowouts with only 2 teams making the "playoff." Exactly what do you mean Peter?

UF lost to FSU in November and then beat FSU for the natty in January back in 96-97. So this has already happened.

In the SEC all you have to do is win 5 conference games and you are in. Nonconference games will be shite in 10 years. They mostly are now.

In the vast majority of seasons, #5 had a notably worse resume than #2.

In the BCS era, #3 got fricked over a couple times. Anyone past that was always undeserving. Whether they “could win” is irrelevant, because they didn’t win enough to get there.

Here is what I think in all the years of a 64 team NCAA college basketball tournament the lowest seed to ever win the playoff was an 8 seed and it took the perfect game from villanova to do that.

So that tells me that a 32 team playoff is the max we need. The only reason we have more is about money.

There will never be a team below the team ranked 16th that will win a playoff and more than likely no team below the 8th ranked team will ever win the playoffs. So the rest of the teams are just about money.

The Ohio States and the Georgias will not be content with a 22-seed that forces you to go on the road in the first two rounds.

Maybe, maybe not. Would you rather be a 22 seed with a healthy roster or a top 4 seed with a banged up roster? Teams will have to weigh the importance of regular season games and manage how to make it to the postseason with the least amount of injuries.

We will still have all of the NYD Bowl games. I also believe most of the rinky dink bowls (Hawaii, NO, LV, etc) will still be around next year as well.

All these people complaining about the 24-team playoff killing college football are the same people who will complain about two teams having half their rosters opt out to see someone get Mayo dumped all over them.

And all the assholes saying the 24 team playoff will make things better said the same thing about NIL and adding more bowl games.

You guys paved over paradise.

Winning back to back road games in December as a low seed will be mighty difficult. I think having a top 16 seed will be vital.

So you think a #4 ranked team out of 130+ teams is undeserving of making the post season? In what universe are you talking about? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Trying to pick a couple or even 4 teams out of 4 power conferences when most of them haven't played each other is insane.

Non playoff bowls were already irrelevant, this just kills off a few of the more superfluous ones, but they will still be around for whatever reason.

What this DOES do is water down the regular season and make it more like Texas HSFB where every year there are districts that put teams with losing records in the playoffs...which totally kills the accomplishment factor.

Head coaches could literally get their teams in the playoffs 4-5 years in a row and still get fired if they can't progress very far because DEI means making the playoffs is no big deal.

The frick I did.

I have always said it would be better if we did a 24 team playoff then the shitty bowl system and also was not in favor of the NIL or portal.

It doesn't water down the regular season. Everyone said the same when it went to 4 and then 12, yet look at all the Bama vs Georgia threads about Saturday's game. The regular season still matters and will always matter.

You guys are fricking crazy.

Hell, that happened just last year with Georgia and Bama and no one complained.

I'm sure they could.

However, since the inception of the CFP, the only programs that weren't a 1/2 seed to win the national championship have been Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia.

And so you are in favor of the playoff expansion then, right?
