I’ll be the optimist. The FCS has done a 24-team playoff for years and it rules. Even before the CFP, the non-BCS bowls were mostly a joke. Now, we should dump the SEC Championship Game in light of this, but it won’t happen because it prints money.

In all honesty I do kind of wish the Egg Bowl would be irrelevant almost like it was last year. I hate having that game at the end of the year

So they no longer care about academics?
Because that was always their argument against a playoff.

So the national championship game teams will basically be playing NFL seasons at this point.

Hell why not make them play 20 games and expand it even more! It’ll make more money right??

It'll be fun in spurts, but the very reason college football attracted such a lucrative following is because the energy and passion that was a magnet to eyeballs. People are attracted to energy. College football had that energy because the uniqueness of on-campus regular season experiences - it's an electricity that when you're exposed to you become addicted for life. That electricity will be gone now with the regular season so diluted, so the next generation and the generation after won't have the same affinity toward the sport. And as a result, it will slowly die on the vine.

There’s not a single change that’s happened in College football recently that has made the sport better. Wish the entire sport would blow up.

SEC and big 10 should just have the equivalent to the afc and nfc playoffs, and the winner of each plays for the championship. If notre dame wants to play for an actual championship they can join the big 10. SEC can add Miami and Clemson or unc.

In a way, I see this as a sad reflection of the younger generations of college football audiences. They’re shallow, superficial zombies who live on social media and want instant gratification. They want as much stimulatory overload as possible. This is a way for the corporate powers to capitalize on that

I don’t necessarily disagree, but another part is the profit obsessed boomers and Gen X that will do anything to make more money.

Conference championship games need to stop immediately.

No it doesn't. They have the same issues everyone warns about now.

Regular season doesn't matter - teams with 3 and 4 losses make it in.

That leads to extreme competitive imbalance and lopsided matchups. Blow out games are extremely common - and they will be at the FBS level as well.

And then there are specific FCS things - schools lose money on it. The home field advantage is pay to play - a school can buy homefield advantage.

It has forced regionalization. Which would be like it starts out as a a bunch of SEC teams playing each other with some ACC teams mixed in.

Depsite all this, it's pretty much dominated by the same few teams...because they are better.

And....the entire thing is run by the NCAA.

What is it that makes you think it's so great?

I wouldn’t schedule anymore power four out of conference games, and I would sit players as much as possible. The injuries piling up on teams 6 games through the season is already ridiculous.

College football sucks. And that’s not just because Auburn sucks. The so-called leaders’ greed, incompetence and indifference to the tradition that made the sport great has ruined the sport.

We’re not the ones making the decisions you decrepit idiot.

ETA: I promise you this is not about “Hurr younger generations are dumb or something so let’s go to 24!”

It’s more like old fricks just being greedy, and the money will be coming from other old people.

Great Idea. Water down the sport even further, and it will still be OSU, Bama, UGA, and someone from a group of a few rotating teams in the semi-final round every year.

What they should do is just have the whole season be a playoff. You lose week 1? See you next year. You play until you lose and the last undefeated team is the champ. That would make about as much sense as this.

Guessing SEC must have gotten their buyout on the Conference Championship. So bye bye to one of the most exciting events in the sports history. Used to go every year regardless of who was in the game. So stupid expanding to 24 teams.

Nobody wants to watch the repeat of last year where teams like JMU and Tulane got sacrificed. It only gets worse with 24 teams.

It will go to 32. Predicted this in 1999 when they first decided to do a 'true' BCS Championship Game.

It was inevitable, and I was told I was nuts.

I may be crazy, but I was right about this.

Too much money involved. So it will go to a 32 team playoff. And teams will still piss and moan about the 'unfairness' when their team doesn't make the cut.
