Yep, it's a complete waste of time. Has been for a bit.

Crazy you're 16 games deep before the quarterfinals. People are going to have playoff fatigue before it even gets started good. It's like bowl season where you could skip half of them & catch back up around New Year's Eve.

I see people saying this will allow teams to schedule tougher OOC opponents, but I don't see why that would be. Strength of schedule makes no difference now - it's all about your record. If a P4 team can get to 9 wins, they're virtually a lock to get in. Doesn't matter if they played anyone ir not.
What is the reward for going with a high risk OOC schedule? If you have to schedule a P4 team, choose Maryland or Cal or Iowa St.

So, basically the T25. That is pathetic

There's going to be unranked teams crying that they deserved to get in.

There was nothing wrong with going and playing your bowl game and the championship pieces falling where they may even if that meant perhaps a couple different teams had claims at a national championship. Bowl season used to be great and new years day would have multiple games with "championship implications". Collee football was not, is not and should never be the NFL.

kinda funny how the fans, who are in near unison on this matter, have zero say-so in how this shakes out.
Agreed. Almost every single friend or person I talk with about this hates it. The few that didn't are luke warm at best and have concerns about implementation and impacts on OOC and conference schedules.

So...the playoffs (following this format) in prior years would have included teams like:
2025 - Iowa (8-4), Georgia Tech (9-3), Virginia (10-3), Texas (9-3), Vandy (10-2)
2024 - Ole Miss (9-3), Missouri (9-3), South Carolina (9-3), Memphis (10-2), Colorado (9-3), Syracuse (9-3), Iowa State (10-3)
2023 - Kansas State (8-4), Clemson (8-4), Tennessee (8-4), Oregon State (8-4), LSU (9-3), Ole Miss (10-2), Missouri (10-2), Louisville (10-3), NC State (9-3), Arizona (9-3)
2022 - Troy (11-2), NC State (8-4), Mississippi State (8-4), Texas (8-4), Notre Dame (8-4), South Carolina (8-4), LSU (9-4), UCLA (9-3), Oregon (9-3), Oregon State (9-3), Florida State (9-3)
2021 - Texas A&M (8-4), San Diego State (11-2), Kentucky (9-3), Arkansas (8-4), Clemson (9-3), Wake Forest (10-3), Iowa (10-3), Oregon (10-3), Utah (10-3), Louisiana Lafayette (12-1)
These are actual teams that were in the CFP Top 25 in the Final Poll (when they choose playoff slots)...I mean...sure Louisiana Lafayette finished 12-1, and their only loss was to the only P5 program they played...a 20 point loss to a Texas team that finished the season 5-7...but, yeah...that's a good team for the playoffs.

There was nothing wrong with 4 team playoff and I was against expansion but the 12 team playoff has actually been pretty good and fun.
Doubling that so coaches can get their bonuses easier, and networks and conferences make more money is so extremely short sighted. Enjoy it corpos. You’re killing the golden goose money printer by sucking out what is and always has been the true soul of CFB. The regular season.
Who can’t WAIT for 8-4 teams to get in
It’s all such a joke
This is really well said and I agree on all points. I haven't really stopped to admit..12 teams was kind of fun and mostly included worthy teams with the exception of some of the dumb and misguided auto-bids.
But 24? By design we're now including "others receiving votes" type teams.

Which will accelerate the move to two superconferences, SEC and Big Ten. Rest will be assimilated.
There will be SEC and B10 champ games playing into a college Super Bowl, at which time the transformation of coll football to pro will be complete.

That would actually be better than this IMO.

In a just world, this would have downward pressure on coaches salaries. Why pay tens of millions to a HC if all you need is 8-4? Most competent coords can do that

CFP does not have the authority to eliminate conference championship games.

I have never been one to advocate for Boycots because so many are useless. This idea is probably one of those. But the only way to impact this decision in the future is to cut the money.
If someone with a big enough platform could promote all fans to only watch their favorite team play until round 3. Then all the early games would take huge hits to the ratings. But there has to be a fan uprising to explain the poor ratings. Otherwise this is here to stay and we just made the regular season meaningless.
Teams will sit players at the end of the season if they are not in contention for a bye spot. And the game, matchups, rivalry’s will suffer.

We knew it was going to get here. All they're doing is replacing some of the meaningless bowl games with a playoff game.
This will work for me provided only 6 or less non-CFP bowl games remain. 36 teams total playing post season.

We had playoffs of 150+ teams. Started early September.

So are there auto bids for the Mountain West and MAC etc like in the FCS or is there only 1 auto bid for non-P4 teams?
