But the only way to impact this decision in the future is to cut the money.
The playoff numbers were already bad. There's plenty of bowl games that did better ratings than some playoff games. This is going to make it way worse.
Maybe the most retarded argument I've seen is "don't you see how great it will be to watch teams fight to get into the playoffs in Week 12?"
As if anyone gives a shite if Kansas St gets that all important 8th win in the last game of the year. They seriously think like the entire sports world will be glued to the CW to see if Duke goes 7-5 or 8-4.

Yep can’t wait until a team is already in and they decide to sit their starters in the iron bowl or the egg bowl or OHST vs Mich.

Hard to believe that SEVERAL SEC teams will never know what it's like to win a SECCG!!

The thing about 24 that bothers me most is…
Who is this for?
It’s not because TV was begging for it. ESPN had to be convinced.
It’s not for a boatload of new cash. Losing conf champ games is gonna make this a minimal gain.
It’s not because the 22nd team has any shot at a natty. It doesn’t.
It’s certainly not done with the health, safety, or academic success of the players in mind since they don’t even get a say in this.
It’s entirely to appease the people donating the money that keeps a financially irresponsible business model afloat. It’s discounting success so schools can say “look what your donation bought.”
It’s an industry hellbent on treating investors and bosses as the customer, and customers as an infinite resource that will keep coming back no matter what.

The first round CFP game between JMU and Oregon drew the exact same rating as New Mexico vs Minnesota in the Rate Bowl on December 26th
This isnt surprising.
The harsh truth for a lot people who are fans of teams that could never dream of making the playoffs at 12 teams let alone 4, is none of us fricking give a shite which of your schools manages to make it to 8 wins just to go on the road in the 1st round of of this new shite format to get skull fricked by a team like Alabama or Miami, etc.
No one is going to watch it. You dont belong there. There is never going to be cinderellas in football like in basketball and anyone making the argument that could happen is a casual at best and a subversive at worst.
What makes what a team like Kentucky, Mizzou, and UCLA doing this year so far so entertaining and special is that their isnt a playoff spot for anyone who can stumble into 9 wins and 8 if youre lucky.
If this was next year none of us would be as enthralled with these narratives as they play out because who give a shite about which team wins the zou/ole miss game this weekend? They will both likely be in the field of 24 come winter.

In 2024, the Iowa St - Miami Pop Tarts Bowl got better ratings than SMU-Penn St playoff game. Seems like people are working off this false assumption that casuals will watch any game just because it has the word "playoffs" beside it.

Yea it would have been one of 8 games. Not every game is going to be a nail biter, nor were they when it was a four-team playoff.

College football is no longer college football. Who even cares anymore.
