re: Kelly is not coaching again

Exactly. This is LSU's minimum leverage, i.e. even if they don't take the cause route. It is suspicious as hell for BK rejecting a sweet lump sum $30 MM payment that would waive this obligation.

LSU wants to pay less? Why? For what reason should Kelly take less?

Because it would then allow BK to not have to offset the amount LSU paid him by future salary he earns, thus potentially allowing BK to earn more than just $53 million. BK is under an obligation to seek employment to offset.
 he wanted basically the PV at a suboptimal rate of return, AND LSU to waive his mitigation clause. What a prick offer that was.

If he plans on coaching again he is leaving money on the table by not taking a lump sum. If he isn’t planning on coaching there’s no need to negotiate. Simple as that. He will push to get the largest lump sum he can before showing his cards on whether he wants to coach. This negotiation is not news worthy

Agree. A $30MM lump sum payment from LSU is extremely generous of LSU. If he rejects it I would call into question his upholding his duty to seek employment elsewhere. Let’s see if he wants to get in that fight.

Kelly is going to get what he is contractually owed. Or damn close. I would.

The problem is if Kelly had intent to coach again the lump sum payment with a waiver of his mitigation clause would be a better deal for him. He could double dip.

He could pretty easily in the next couple years find someone to pay him $7MM a year over 6 years and with a $30 MM settlement offer from LSU be better off by a good bit.

The problem is he might be a grifter and have no intent or drive to coach again. And if I were LSU I would fight that as not doing his diligence in finding employment.

Not to mention if the allegations of his conduct are true, LSU has cause leverage over him. I want to see LSU fight this.

Honestly think this mentality is what holds LSU back a lot. It's like New Orleans - But Mardi Gras is the best week ever! Doesn't excuse the city being a shithole the rest of the year.

I digress - the point is that it would be nice to be more consistent in the 9-3 to 11-1 range in playoff hunts in between those incredible championship seasons.

Thinking Saban would come as AD really proves that we are insane
While I disagree with the pretense these students are approaching this, I do respect them for getting up there. BUT, if you want to be taken seriously maybe try and look like you didn't just roll out of bed. And before people say "we don't care about appearance," yes, it does matter.
A 10-2 Vandy would definitely get in over 10-2 Ole Miss if it came down to a choice.
One thing that could work in the Lane sweepstakes’ favor is it Ole Miss is snubbed from the playoffs at 10-2. That is very possible with no ranked wins and potentially 5 of A&M, Alabama, UGA, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Texas being 10-2 or better. If there were ever an eye opener in brand differentiator this would show it to Lane.

No one hates LSU like LSU fans
Great post. More and more schools will balk at established coaches asking for guaranteed contracts and say “no thanks, I’ll go to this coordinator instead” and then the established coaches will lose their bargaining power.

re: Ryan Clark going off on Gov. Landry

Landry is a loud mouth tool, but lets not pretend if LA had a liberal black governor saying the same thing Ryan Clark wouldn't say "In Louisiana, it just means more!"

Think the essence of OP's post is not "Serial Killer"
I thought it was more of "you're not working for that man" in Orgeron.

Between getting bombed on national TV, to the violence on campus, to a bumbling governor taking shots (rightfully so) at our ticket price increases. Man, we are hurting right now. And we can’t fall back onto a good hoops team to lift our spirits.

For these reasons LSU doesn’t really deserve a good program. With the game being more transactional than ever, why would we expect players, coaches, prospective students to want to be a part of this? Take a trip to other schools and see what they’ve got going for them. It doesn’t compare.
