What they’ve done is make the concept of conferences pointless
the idea of Oregon and Rutgers being in the same “regional” conference, and Stanford and Cal playing their “Atlantic Coast” brethren, just made it more ludicrous

Everything started going downhill once Bama got the BCS rematch vs LSU when the rest of the country was getting SEC fatigue. It led to the 4 team playoff which led to the 12 team playoff which is now leading to the 24 team playoff.

They could have done this playoff while still persevering the importance of both the regular season and conference championship games.
Your playoff idea is one of the better ones I’ve seen. Conferences have gotten too big and there needs to be a way to balance schedules for everyone and you accomplish that with evenly sized conferences and divisions.

I do.
Why the frick do 24 teams deserve to be in a football playoff?
12 was more than enough to ensure the teams who have earned it the most get a shot to win it all.
Here’s a thought. Instead of expanding the playoffs into the participation trophy award, how about win your games in the regular season? Stop giving into agents threatening your athletic department’s to earn 30,40,50 million dollar buyouts to the point you can’t make a coaching change without putting your school into precarious debt?
Kentucky is doing so much more with so much less. Their NIL spending is on the level of northwestern and Iowa and look at what a good coach can do.
All this does is reward mediocrity

I hear what you’re saying. But at least up ‘till recently , there was a tangible benefit to being in a conference. Now, with doing away with conference championships, they have removed the last vestiges of relevance for conferences.
Look at teams like Vandy. Yeah, Vandy caught lightning in a bottle last year. But, let’s be honest, playing against the SEC Vandy is lucky if they win 7 games in a season. In the past, that would at least get you a bowl game. But this playoff expansion is going to kill those off as well. Going forward, unless you win 8 or 9 games a year, your season is done. Why would a team like Vandy not explore moving to an easier conference where they’d at least have some hope of making the playoff?

It creates more meaningful/interesting games in December/January.
A good replacement for the soon-do-be-axed bowl games.

Ridiculous. 12 was almost too many; It really should be the 8 top contenders (4 champs and 4 wildcards).
I'll ignore most of the 1st round games and watch when the good teams or LSU play.

I dont like it. But with this format, the teams that recruit in the top 10 yearly can rest players more often.

Teams would still rather enter the playoffs 12-0 or 11-1 vs 9-3!
But it’s important to fix the scheduling in the regular season to prevent teams like OSU and ND from sleepwalking through it.

The glorious commissioner of the SEC folded for some extra money in his pocket. What a pussy

Kill the conf championship
It's fun in basketball but basketball is not football where you can play consecutive days if you need to. NIL and Portal did enough. Stick a fork in it now.

If Georgia or Florida wins the SEC Championship and clinches a spot in the playoffs, does that mean they’ll rest their starters against their ACC rivals in final week?

Might as well expand to 128 teams now. Ridiculous.

Wow. It would not hurt my feelings a bit to face MState or Iowa in the first round, but I honestly don't expect to finish at #1 after the regular season.
We still have Ole Miss and Missouri left. (Florida is a rivalry, so who knows) Then if everything goes right we will face another tough team (Alabama probably?) in the SECCG.

By making the games in September-November less meaningful and interesting.
Every single 10-2 and 9-3 team is getting into the CFP with this new format, along with one or two 8-4 teams in certain years.
