Lacy is a key reason why we made the playoffs. Seems worth it, but I'm not the one having to drop that much money...

If those reports of Oxford bringing in $74M for the playoff are close to accurate, there are plenty of people who should be willing to pony up some money for him. Know it's an overpay but I'm sure we got him this year for next to nothing so I'd say we owe him. Love watching him play and want him to announce he's from ole miss when he's in the nfl.
Where has RebelGator been? Did kiffin leaving break him or was his info coming from someone on the offensive staff that is leaving. Very curious to hear what is going on behind the scenes with lacy, Trinidad and our kicker. Know Watkins is gone which is fine, but would like to know what's going on with the other 3

Look back at comments throughout the year last year on our boards when we lost games and had a fricking punt returner and defensive tackle getting carries instead of Ulysses Bentley.
Keep in mind that most ole Miss fans wanted Kevin smith fired last year because of the rb situation costing us multiple games.

who was one of the worst coaches in NFL history?

Funny, I feel like that was said about another coach who was just made the 2nd highest paid coach in college football. Who could that be
I would overpay for lacy because he is such a great player and I want him in the nfl as an ole miss player. That said, I would think an overpay is around $1M. If $2M is the real number then good for lacy but that's just not smart
LSU going to pay Kevin smith $1M to be a running back coach. Their level of desperation to overpay for our coaching staff is somewhat humbling. Saban could just offer our coaches comparable pay years ago and they'd leave. LSU is having to make pretty much every coach leaving ole miss the highest at his position. Love our staff, but wow.
Pete said Charlie said he was coaching the game yesterday regardless of whether or not he had lane's blessing. Sounds like that was communicated before he got on the plane. I've gained a lot of respect for Charlie this year. Hope he ends up getting a head coaching job soon and gets away from kiffin

He is playing with Kiffins team

Who do you think actually recruited these players? Kiffin is an incredible play caller, but you'll find out he only personally invests his time or effort in recruiting 3-4 players a year
Still find it hilarious that yall had to pay lane kiffin for us winning. He can say he went for the brand, recruiting etc.. but sexton bent lsu over a barrel with kiffin and Weiss's contracts.

Moscona seems to think OM is so hurt and mad that they will do anything to try and embarrass Kiffin.

Stop Traffic. If an LSU fanboy says it then this must be true.

We hired 3 guys from LSU who all had previously worked at Ole Miss. Austin Thomas and Bolden were both recently employed by Ole miss and Frank Wilson hired Pete Golding a long time ago. To act like there were not legitimate reasons for Pete Golding to hire these guys and just assume it's to get back at Lane is just stupid.

Losing Lane hurts, it absolutely does. With Lane we had a decent shot to beat UGA, without him that chance goes down considerably. That said, that is only with a Lane that is focused on helping this team win. If we're getting ready for UGA but Lane is more focused on what qb he needs to get in the portal for LSU, we are better off without it.
Has anyone heard what our contingency is if Trinidad has his waiver denied and Simmons leaves?

HAven't heard much about Deuce Knight entering the portal.

Frank was made by LSU in a by-gone era at this point, you will figure that out pretty quick

You do realize he coached at Ole Miss before he ever coached at LSU right? He was pretty much the only coach worth a shite in the Orgeron era and was a big part of getting the players that Houston Nutt was able to have some success with. The truth is if Lacy ends up going to Bama, Michigan, Texas or whoever ponies up the most cash, I'd bet most LSU fans would have preferred to keep Wilson over Kevin Smith.
A Berry for Lacy swap is interesting. LSU had a terrible offensive line and Berry looked pretty damn good. Obviously would prefer to keep Lacy but I also understand his relationship with Smith so that will be hard to keep him if Smith goes to LSU.

If we match the money, I have a hard time seeing Chambliss leaving. He referred to Joe Judge as a 2nd father and he raves about Ole Miss and the fans. A damn song was created for him. All things considered, I think he stays. Sucks to think about having to root against those guys next year.
I'm assuming this makes lacy and smith to lsu official
Did LSU really have more talent? Outside of the defensive backs where was lsu more talented?
IT will be interesting. Lane is an insanely talented offensive mind and will have a similar recruiting base to what he had at USC. Let's see how he handles going back to being the villain. I think when he left UT he didn't really care what people said about him. As we've seen from how upset he got about being called a hoe, I think he does care about how others see him. I really think he thought he could go to LSU and Ole Miss fans would just be grateful and wish him well. That was just never going to happen going to a rival. If he had gone to Florida, I think most Ole Miss fans would get over it after the trip to Gainesville next year. Ole Miss fans are pissed/hurt and the national media (besides Saban) has been blasting him. He text one of our beat writers at 4 in the morning asking if Trinidad was a hoe for saying he will look at all of his options. It clearly bothers him. The thought of everyone wanting you to fail can motivate you or cripple you. Outside of LSU fans, everyone will be rooting against him. We'll see how he handles that.
Knew before I even read anything in here that LSU fans would be posting more than anyone trying to say none of these count.

I think for perception we just need to do whatever it takes to win this one. Lose your coach and a potential heisman winner to your rival, that's just not good. Hate being reckless in overpaying players but given the fact we got lacy on a bargain this year, we should be willing to overspend to keep him

It’s not some systemic issue where we(or Kevin Smith) can’t keep running backs. It’s just bad luck for us.

Do we think he'd turn down an extra $150K to stay here vs playing for Kevin smith at lsu?

So what is the deal with Kevin smith? This is going to be the 2nd time in 3 years one of the 2 best running backs in college is at ole Miss and transfers before their junior year
