Gene Stallings. No one else comes close.
This. I actually got to play golf with him back in 1996. He came to Houston for a charity golf tournament and I had just moved here. Pretty good golfer. He was on my pedestal after the NC game against the U.

I've had three interactions with Coach Slocum. All were amazing.
The first occured in the late 90s when my dad was dying of cancer. Somehow, Coach Slocum found out and sent him a personal note. He was the HC at the time and my dad was just a small town south Texas Aggie but he took the time to do it. Meant the world to my dad.
Second time was at a mexican restaurant in Someville, Tx. around 2017. He was there to meet with a wealthy couple concerning a donation. I was there because I had weekend property in the area. The couple were late and we ended up drinking margaritas and chatting for about forty minutes. Great conversation.
Third time was in 2023 as I was recovering from a very serious illness. He had gone through a similar health issue. Found out about mine and called me up to wish me well.
I'll also give a shout out to Barry Switzer. My daughter went to OU and lived off campus near a deli that Barry often frequented. She went there enough that she was allowed to sit at his table. Incredibly personable man and he was always graceful in taking pictures or signing autographs.

Gene Stallings - as an Auburn fan, I was introduced to him in Paris Texas, and when he asked me who i was a fan of, I said Auburn, and he said well son we all make mistakes and then laughed.

Ron Zook didn't work out but he was a pretty cool acting guy to fans when I talked to him a few times. After I was out of the Army and went to UF I saw Spurrier a lot when he was finishing up jogging around the area in the offseason but I never talked with him. I just assumed he might be one of those arrogant types if he wasnt doing a function. He just kind of gave off that look to me but maybe he wasn't that way - I am not sure.

Shug Jordan and Bear Bryant.
Met both.
Shook hands with them.
Old school gents.
I put Shug first bc I’m an Auburn man.

Joe Kines, met him after he retired we were in Cozumel on a cruise. Very nice guy, he seemed really surprised anyone recognized him. I asked him how we were going to stop that inside trap and he laughed.

Met Coach O in a hotel lobby when he was at Ole Miss. We talked for a good 10 or so minutes, and I barely understood a word he said. Very personable and likable dude though. Seem to generally be interested in what I was saying.
Held the door open for Sylvester Croom one time. Spoke to him, and he walked right on in and didn't say a word. No thank you, how you doing, nothing. This was the summer of 08 when he was coming off his only winning year. We started off with a loss at La Tech and a few weeks later was the infamous 3-2 Auburn game which I had tickets to and didn't attend thankfully. The season was a disaster, and I decided to go on strike against Croom and not go to any games for the first time in like 10 years. Of course, he was fired after the year. He was a bad coach, and my interaction with him made me think worse of him. I'd always take up for him to fans who were bashing him. I mean, he could've spoken or said thank you, especially after I clearly spoke to him while holding the door open. Had Mississippi State gear on also. You'd always hear these stories about how great a guy he was, etc. I know several players and recruits who said he was an a-hole and couldn't stand him. I got the same air from him from our brief encounter.
As many stated on here I also met and heard Coach Stallings at a FCA event. I hate everything Alabama, but Coach Stallings was a class act. Super nice and talked to everyone like he was their long lost best friend. Like someone else said I'd have ran through a wall for him after meeting him.
ETA: not a SEC coach, but met Paul Johnson when he was at Tech. One of the coolest dudes I've ever met. Very funny and dry.

I met Switzer at a Touchdown Club event in Memphis. He was promoting his book and was very engaging. Had a cocktail in hand all night.

Les Miles is a really nice guy. I've met 7 SEC coaches over the years and he's the only one who struck me as an actual human being. Coaches are weird people

I’ve only met Jackie Sherrill. It was after the Egg Bowl, I want to say mid to late 90s. A church friend was a State fullback in the 80s and got us VIP passes to the team-coaches room before and after the game. My wife had a kid she taught who was a recruit at Speake High School in Lawrence County AL. Kellen Winslow tight end type athlete. About 6-4 230. He was special ed and couldn’t qualify, sadly. No parental support. But he was a stud. He later tried to walk on at UNA, just not there grade-wise. Still a fun time for all of us.

My cousin met Tommy turbeville at an airport in full bama gear(her dad was emeritus at auburn oddly enough). Said he was super cool, talked and joked with em for ten minutes. She asked for a pic and he smiled and said sure. When he posed it was him making a look of disgust at her bama shirt lol. I met Lou holtz at a hot dog stand in Myrtle. He was pretty down to earth and funny.
