Two NFL Rookies, Former Ole Miss Teammates Enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Two former Ole Miss teammates who made the jump to the NFL this offseason are exploring a return to college football.

Former Rebels tight end Dae'Quan Wright and defensive lineman Zxavian Harris have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal after being granted an additional year of eligibility as part of a temporary restraining order against the NCAA.

Wright went undrafted this spring and originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles before being claimed by the Cleveland Browns earlier this month. His decision to enter the portal is historic, as he became the first active NFL player to formally enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Wright spent his final two college seasons at Ole Miss after beginning his career at Virginia Tech.

Harris signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent after four seasons at Ole Miss. The 6-foot-8, 330-pound defensive lineman appeared in 52 games for the Rebels, recording 123 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. The Saints waived Harris earlier this month.

Wright and Harris were among a group of former college athletes who received a temporary restraining order that opened the door for them to pursue another season of college eligibility.
