Two years ago I saw Manny Diaz at the beach Club in Watersound. He was with his OC and other coaches just hanging my the pool.
Another non coach I saw was Arian Foster in Houston at a nice bar. I was chilling watching football when he came up next to me. I had no idea who he was but random people kept trying to talk to him so I asked who he was. His exact answer was “I kick arse.” I replied “ok, but people keep coming up to you. Obviously you are someone and I mean no disrespect.” His tone changed and said who he was etc. Nice guy. We chatted for 5-10 minutes and he went on his way.

quote:It was probably at The Cove on the corner of Highway 82 and #69 in Northport.
My brother and I were just back from Vietnam in 1969, enrolled at Alabama. We were eating breakfast at 5:30 AM in cafe in Northport when Coach Bryant walked in.
Actually Coach was known for having an excellent memory for names back in his younger days. Old age does that to us all!

I met Les at his son's baseball state title game at ULM the year I graduated HS and was LSU bound. My friend and I were just there watching as our team had lost in the semis. We thought it was Les but we knew it was as soon as he started doing that signature clap. We decided not to bother him at his son's game but we were wearing LSU stuff and on the way out we passed him and just kinda gave him a nod acknowledging him. He stood up with a big smile and said "hey guys, geaux Tigers!" and he started talking to us for a couple minutes. We ended up getting a pic with him. He was the nicest guy, most laid back guy and definitely didnt have to start a conversation with us but I guess he could tell we wanted to say something to him so he brought it all upon himself. He was wearing a "life is good" shirt with blue jean shorts and some white dad new balances
ETA: guess this wasnt really by chance since it was at his son's baseball game but we werent going to bother him and he sparked up the convo so maybe it qualifies

Saw Mike Leach a the Grand Marlin on Pensacola Beach about 5 years ago. He was standing with a group of people waiting for a table as my group was waiting too. I peered at him, and he gave me the nod as in, yep you're correct, I am the pirate.

Back in 2010 I was still in the Navy and on deployment in the Gulf. Brian Kelly, Ron Zook, and some other guy (I think it may have been Harvard's head coach) visited my ship to do some gladhanding. I was on watch in Combat when they came by. Zook didn't say much, but Brian Kelly saw my Alabama coffee mug and asked if I had always had it, or just bought it after they won the NC. Jackass.
In 2012 (I think it was) one of my Navy buddies, who was a big Florida fan, came up to see them play us in Bryant-Denny. He stayed over at my parents' and early the morning of the game my dad and I took him out to tour the campus before everything got covered up with traffic. Coming down Bryant Drive down between the Bryant Museum and the AD building we had to slow down to keep from running over Coach Saban, who was walking across the street.
...in before every single fan of every other school posts "you shouldn't have slowed down."

First Coach K was a speaker for our sales team launch and he met with the managers before the talk. Asked each of us about our teams and shared his leadership philosophy. It was a great session Second on the same plane with Coach O from Knoxville to Memphis when he was just leaving UT. He was in his drinking days and I could smell the alcohol from a couple of rows behind him. Third was next to Coach Fulmer in airport restaurant in O’Hare in Chicago. Was with a UT grad who asked hm for a picture. He was very nice about it which I understood since she was very good looking.

I saw Coach Stallings at Hartsfield once. He was walking in the other direction with another gent I didn’t recognize. I said hello Coach, and he spoke & smiled. Wish I could have had a chance to chat, or snap a pic. Bebes was always my favorite coach.

Knight is a guy I would avoid if I saw him. I don't know what he is like in person but he comes off as the biggest ahole on the planet. Dude might want to fight if you spoke to him.

Ha! I was real careful, just wished him luck on the upcoming season (even though I’m no Texas Tcek fan).

Interviewed Ray Perkins when I was an intern at a local radio station in Mobile back in the 80s.
Not an easy interview.
