Ran into Doug Barfield outside a convenience store. Ran into Pay Dye at the Hotel Talasi. Ran into Tuberville at the SEC bball tournament. Ran into Sonny Smith at Hardees.

Used to see Shug walking his dog all the time. Took him some butterbeans once.

Saw Dabo at a Chick-fil-A in Oxford, likely recruiting Kwon Alexander.

Stood in line to get into BCSNCG in NOLA with Barry Switzer. Had a great time he’s quite a guy.

I took an elective at Auburn my junior year called "Coaching Basketball". Coach Smith was the instructor. Without a doubt, my absolutely most favorite class at Auburn. The entire hour (held three days/week) was a non-stop comedy show. It was the most popular elective course when I was at Auburn.

Frank Thomas was also in that class FWIW.

Good times....

One I left off was standing at the luggage carousel at the Nashville Airport and seeing Frank Robinson on the other side from me.

Yes Les Miles. Met him before a game I was umpiring in Baton Rouge. His son played at a private league. Super nice guy sat down and talked with me for like 20 minutes.

THIS. I got to visit with Les on a few occasions at the old Drillers Diamonds when my nephew was playing baseball in a league with his son. Les would stand behind the the scorer’s box behind home plate and talk to whomever walked up to him. At the ballpark, he was “just another Dad” watching his son play. I thought that I would never have been able to visit with Nick Saban at one of his son’s games because he wouldn’t have been there. He would have been studying game film somewhere.

A couple of years later, I visited with him on the sideline at my son’s Ymca basketball game when his youngest was also playing. I joked with him that there was “no coaching allowed” from the bleachers. He smiled and said his daughter told him the same thing. LOL. I remember complementing him on a great recruiting class that year, and he said that he had the best coaching staff around.

Thomson has a bunch (for it’s size)of NFL guys and gets a fair number of coaches scouting. So we would see guys grabbing a bit to eat often. Thanks to the masters in Augusta I ran into Spurrier and Muschamp once.

He’s not a coach but last time I was in Eatonton Ga I was at a builder supply shop visiting a college buddy and Lynn Swann ordered some stuff for his lake house. He’s an Auburn fan.

My brother and I were just back from Vietnam in 1969, enrolled at Alabama. We were eating breakfast at 5:30 AM in cafe in Northport when Coach Bryant walked in.

Now I cant stop picturing a 70+ year old man sitting at his laptop making hilariously awful shitposts about Auburn and LSU. The visual is pretty funny but extremely pathetic as well. Thanks for your service though.

Met Gene Stallings before an AU - A&M game at the student center. Chatted a few moments. Real, genuinely, friendly guy.
Then a woman's voice rang out, "Gene. Come over here, I want to show you what I want to buy."
Gene turned his head back to me, nodded, and then called back, "Yes dear, be right there.", as he trudged off like the dutiful husband he is.

Ran into Les Miles at Whole Foods shortly after he was fired. We were parked right next to each other and were both unloading our groceries into our vehicles. We made small talk and I thanked him for the time he was at LSU. He responded in typical Les fashion with “boy we had some fun didn’t we”

Why else would he be in Lake Charles, all weekend, the week before the season opener doing nothing football related?

Because his son is the QB at McNeese.

In the early 80s I went to a convenience store in Montgomery and Ray Perkins was in line. He asked if anyone knew how to get to Interstate 85 north. I gave him directions and he thanked me.

He added he and his wife had been to Huntingdon College for a basket ball tournament.

Not me but my brother was taking a leak at a Saints game and looked to his left and Mike Ditka(post Saints) was taking a leak next to him

For the record my brother has no shame, once they washed hands he asked Ditka for his autograph

Saw Kirby Smart eating chicken fingers in Opelika. Waited until he was in the parking lot to speak. Very nice.

Saw coach Stallings waiting to check in at the Winfrey Hotel. Such a gentleman.

I had to check Brother Bill Oliver’s lake house for a house alarm and he was home. Super nice guy and offered to take me to breakfast but I was working.

McNeese’s season was already postponed to the spring at the time. And his son was not with him. By the looks of it, he must’ve been paid to just sit by the pool all weekend and attract people to the casino since they were slow due to Covid.
