So do you play 3-2-6 with extra safety and fastest LBs?

4-1-6?

All I know is Costello did a great job hitting crosser on middle blitzes. He also recognized outside press and hit some go routes.

It’s a system it certainly worked Saturday.

Will it work against 9 other SEC opponents?

Time will tell.

I've made that point many times. Washington dominated Leach. His offenses were mush against Washington.

I have heard this point many times as well but you miss one very important thing.

Huskies had a bunch of 4 & 5 star rated players going up against Non-rated and at best three stars at WSU?

In the end, the X's and O's are great but players win games. The coaches only can make a difference if the player talent level is at least somewhat close and it was not between the Huskies and Cougars.

Those two programs were never close. There were a couple years that the Huskies got more 4 star players than WSU got rated players enrolled in their entire class.

The question will be can Leech get the players at State? I think he can, especially with the new transfer rule but either way it's going to be interesting for sure.

It amazes me that more offenses don't try and target these matchups 10+ times a game.

Most exciting post as a State fan that I saw all weekend came from a Pac-12 guy.

I cannot word exactly or even remember where I saw it but this is close:

"Uh Oh! They have given Leech SEC talent!"

If Costello is "on", that offense will be almost unstoppable.

If Costello has an "off" day, the system won't work the way it did Saturday.

If the defense starts getting some stops, it can get away from State because they will start pressing.

If it's not working, you would want to run more, but Leach won't do that.

All these reasons are why Leach teams can have massive upsets and then suffer a massive upset (Portland State).

It's the system. It's the way it works. While I think State has a lot of potential, I'm not sure the Air Raid will ever allow them to actually win an SEC (or national) championship. It can probably get them as close as they've ever been before, but "system" offenses don't really win championships.

Amen brother!

He was afraid Kylin Hill would gash him... uh, oh wait. Never mind

Or maybe cover the RB. Leach always throws to them a ton

So all you have to do is cover 5 receivers and the running back. Simple, nothing to it.

Agreed

If you want to run MAN with your 3rd 4th string CBs...give them some help! Back of press coverage and zone with LBs over middle. It was frustrating.

I think we can all agree that LSU without Stingley is absolute dog shite on defense. Myles Brennan is not an SEC QB. And Costello and Leach are gonna score points.

Well, 4 receivers and the RB, but yes.

You guys get 6 players on offense that can catch passes? No winner LSU had such a hard time.

They also absolutely obliterated WSU on the lines of scrimmage every year in that game. That always seemed to be the biggest difference.

The biggest thing is going to be the things that nobody is talking about - MSU is going to have a semblance of a defense and special teams, things that were an afterthought at WSU.

The coogs lost game after game because they were a joke on that side of the ball - just look at the UCLA comeback last year. It was actually possible to outscore them because of it.

But they will actually stop some decent offenses with the players they will get, and that will make all the difference in the world in games.

Others will throw out their ideas but here is what I think happened.

Are you facing a specialty offense? By which I mean Air Raid/Run and Shoot or Triple Option. You are? Then what works for every other team on your schedule probably won't work against that team, especially if they run that system well.

Cincinnati, as an example, faced a red hot Army option attack. They went all in on stopping the FB dive. It worked. It wasn't the prettiest win we will see this year but they pulled out a 24-10 win because they went in knowing what they had to do and then did it.

LSU did not adjust to what Moo State was doing. The same plays that worked in the second quarter were working in the fourth quarter with the game on the line. They were facing a specialty offense and they looked like they went into the game treating them like any other offense on the schedule.

Perfect storm.

LSU changed their defensive scheme this year, it's different from what they ran before. People complained about lack of adjustments, but the players don't have the base concept down pat yet, let alone special packages and wrinkles for specific opponents and styles. On top of that, they were missing some key players that would have looked good, even when out of position. Lost a lot of leadership from last year's team, and the expected leaders this year were out too. Stingley, for example- at some point you could have told him "forget scheme, cover THIS guy" etc.

Pair that against an Air Raid, which I've heard isn't complex, but instead is 5-6 plays and you just have to know where to go.

LSU on offense, looked sloppy and rusty, but got 34 pts and Brennan threw for over 300 with 3 TDs.

I think had this been a midseason game, LSU wins. Offense would have been more in synch, defense would be at least comfortable where they were lining up. As it was, they just weren't ready to play someone else running things in a more efficient manner.

We would've beaten you even worse midseason. Our occasional sloppiness is the only reason you stayed in the game.

I guess you didn’t hear that we hired a completely new staff, had opt outs, transfers, and early draft picks as well. We went from a 4-3 to a 3-3-5 and most LSU fans had no clue because “it’s just State” and that’s why this loss is probably a harsh slap in the face for the tigahs.

I don’t think y’all are going to be very good so I’m not quite as high on us as some, but LSU took an arse beating, plain and simple.

According to 247, State has 1 five star and 18 four stars on the current roster.

Washington State has had 15 four star players all-time

ETA: WSU has had 0 five stars
