re: How do we turn things around?

Posted by HotRock on 1/22/25 at 5:42 am
Things are changing and it’s not all bad for State:

The Guys we lost in portal, were replaced with similar or better talent.

Then look at the signing class., 18 HS.. none of these guys are two star cell players that filled Crooms classes. All of them are legit. Sure no five stars but we got few of those anyway. The floor of the HS talent is better than years past.

Another detail JUCOs. They get four years now. We signed ten. Even great JuCo players like Montez Sweat were only here a minute now get a full career and they are older.

Mississippi has one of the best JuCo systems in the country. State got some of the best JuCo’s at positions of need.

And, if we miss on too many.. portal brings in some help.

State has a path to be better than ever before but… so does every Big Ten And SEC TEAM. Those and the teams with m lots of $$$ like SMU & Miami.

Not sure what it means but State has 3 QBs on the roster that are as talented as any group we have ever had.

Thing is: SEC is tough with so many good teams but I don’t see any great ones that can’t be beaten.

Happening this off season… what is it 51 or 52 new players to date… not sure how much improved they will be but they different

Only Bama, Mississippi State and Auburn stood with us in the '84 vote.

The rest were punk biotches.

No it was a 6-4 vote, but I don't remember who voted for us keeping it.
Not sure what you are saying, but UF, Auburn, MSU and bama equals the four schools that sided with UF.

His mathing skills were not mathing properly. 3+ Florida does equal 4

Then I realized, it was a reading math problem.

Yep, you want State info on a message board this ain’t it. I give a little bit;

David Turner is the DL coach and he is the guy that coached, Fletcher Cox, Montez Sweat, Chris Jones, Jeffery Sims, among other greats. He said he likes this group and he does not say such things lightly. Bodes well but:

A lot depends on staying healthy cause so many of our guys have fought injuries, not this year but in the past.

I could go through them one by one but let’s say talent there but they are unproven.
If anyone questions where the talent lies, it’s the SEC, no doubt. 6 of top ten and 13 of 26. Half the top teams are SEC, the rest are split between 3 other P4 conferences, independents and G5’s. Half the 12 team playoffs should be SEC from that graphic.
Them TN hillbillies.

Not a street fight but… don’t follow em to their so called neck of the woods and expect to come back. Guns, knives, dynamite, traps of all kinds. They were always at war with someone or something up there when was Married to one of their daughters. Them folk crazy.
quote:

So smart players, that attend colleges with high academic standards, don't fully engage in the game of football because they are scared of injury?

Scared? No, they generally just have options. Boxing is not the choice of many either, that beats your brains in but so does football and leaves your body wrecked no matter how good you become. I had cousin that played pro ball. I heard him say once it’s not worth it but that was

Heck, many football players would gladly give it up to be a basketball star or a rock star. So scared? That’s not exactly it. More like, they got options and stupid people don’t.

quote:

There's a reason they've got the rightfully earned reputation as douchebags. You should go join them for chicken tenders in their empty lot.

You forgot to add cold or at best warmed up chicken tenders. They can’t even grill in the cove or grove or.. no grills allowed
Then you are not informed. It’s was a running joke for decades before and after Sherrill. I think Mullen even picked up on it.
I would say Jackie Sherrill knows the SEC very well. He never called them anything other than Mississippi to my knowledge.

Clearly that is a lie. If that were remotely true you would not have read this thread much less took the time to make such a response.

To put it simply, the fastest pitch ever recorded is 105.5. So I’m to believe that a pitcher 50 years ago, who didn’t have the benefit of modern training, threw 3 MPH faster than anyone ever has since. Not likely

It's fair to think that radar gun may have been out of calibration. Nothing is absolute but Ryan was built different. The man was still throwing in the high 90's into his mid-40's on modern guns. Most pitchers lose several mph in their late 20s and early 30s and this guy was still up there into his 40's.

There is way more evidence he could hit 105-108 mph back in the day than there is that he couldn't.

I wonder if Myth busters could prove anything.

not a myth - based more on fact than some guy just saying it's a myth.

He was clocked at 100.8 in 1974 in the 9th inning using a radar gun of the day that measured the ball ten feet in front of the plate.

It's no stretch to know the ball starts slowing as soon as the ball leaves the hand. Today the ball is measured much closer to it's max speed closer to leaving the pitcher's hand.

The ball loses a lot of speed in that distance. If you don't know that, then there is no help for you. How much? That takes a lot more time to figure out but the data is out there.

Some estimates have it at 108.5 which may or may not be exactly accurate but I think it's safe to say it's closer to that than you could ever imagine getting with your limited math skills.

This was at a neutral site in Hoover. This wasn’t in Knoxville where some people think the Vols lie about the numbers. He is a legit 100mph. Marcus Phillips also hit like 99mph in the SEC Tournament.

Remember Ben Joyce that was sitting at 102-104 consistently?

Radar guns measured differently back then as compared to now. No conspiracy theory of lies, they are just different.

Back then, they measured the speed of the ball closer to the batter.

Now, they measure the ball closer to when the ball leaves the pitcher's hand. The ball can lose 3-6 mph in that distance depending on a lot of factors.

Just for reference, it is estimated that Nolan Ryan would have been close to 110 mph using today's radar guns.

Need my players but I think we got the right guy as the HC.

Offensively we should be really good, OL, WR, TE and QB seem to be set. Even RB is OK, no HR guy but several guys that run hard.

Defensively? Not so much, way too much unproven. Lots of length and athleticism but toughness? And that secondary? No real big time DL, DE but unproven does not mean untalented. They could be better than expected.

Or they wanted to go to the school that gave them their best chance to get developed for the next level.

This is one of the dumbest things that Bama fans believe to be true that isn't true. It's easy to get guys in the league if they possess high 4 & 5 star talent.

Bama's hit rate getting to NFL of 95 or higher rated players is lower than most places. You just got so many more of them than anyone else.

All Aboard the Lane Train!
Nate has been around for 20 years, he is not new. He blew up during Covid when he did a Netflix special outside that blew the lid off Netflix's ratings. Now, he sells out arenas.

He is a storyteller comedian that is taking advantage of the SNL limelight trying to get his name out there to be more mainstream but to say he wasn't already famous is crazy. Most famous entertainer ever? No, he ain't Elvis.

I listen Dana Carvey and David Spades' podcast called "Fly on the Wall. Nate was on the latest episode. It's about an hour long interview for one guest and you have to have some sort of tie to SNL for them to put you on. I found it very interesting.

Nope, nope, nope... A&M pays just as well and funds it's NIL just as well if not better. Money is at A&M without as much pressure, do not wait. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
