Even Mike Shula shut it down. And he did it with 60 players on scholarship.

Think about that, LSU.

So did Gus

Really? When did he do it? Might be due to lesser players?

Don't think LSU has 8 guys that can cover people.

Correct

With Vincent quitting 5 weeks ago and Stingley seizing 18 hours before kickoff, the CB cupboard was about as bare as I can remember.

That being said, Pelini's lack of any adjustments whatsoever was very perplexing and his new nickname for Leach is daddy until further notice.

Jim Lake the defensive coordinator who is now the head coach at Washington didn't just shut down Leach sporadically but did it consistently.

Or maybe cover the RB. Leach always throws to them a ton

That's because a LB covering a back out of the backfield is usually the biggest mismatch on the field.

I was going to stay that to be fair, the talent at Washington is much better.

But that was also the case this weekend, so...

Ellis Johnson shut it down.

It wasn’t the coverage, it was the mismatch on the line that did them in.

That Washington poster who swears all they did was play cover 4 is full of shite. You drop 8 all day then Leach would call draws all day eating up 5-6 yards a pop until you quit.

2013. Auburn went to WSU to open the season.

It was Leach's 2nd year there and he had a returning qb.

But we didn't "shut it down." They scored 24 points. But we won by a TD.

Yeah, that was a 6-7 Wazzu team up against the eventual SEC champions playing at Auburn (no big non-conference Power 5 Team has played up in Pullman in like 20 years or something).

LINK

Auburn +2 turnover margin and only won by a touchdown.

in fairness the Auburn team at the start of 2013 was significantly worse than the squad we were fielding by the end of the year

The offense was clunky and nothing had really gelled yet. Hell we were worried the fighting Leaches might come in and beat us because 2012 had us so scarred.

WSU fans were cool as shite though.

Also had a 100 yard kickoff return.

But that was the first game of 4-Game Gus tenure. Takes him 4 games to figure his team out, hence the nickname. (He aslonloses 4 games per year) Took him until the Ole Miss game to figure of the zone read worked for this team. Tried to be a passing team.

I remember his best team at Wazzu appeared destined to win the division and go to a NY6 bowl, then a fricking blizzard hit during the Apple Cup.

Minshew couldn't get the ball downfield, so Washington just sat on underneath stuff. It was like a slow-motion trainwreck.

Yep. Alabama beat Leach with 13 points and a roster littered with walk ons.
