Nope. Why would you want to be constantly reminded at how poor your decisions are? Alabama wised up to it eventually, doesn't look like Auburn has any hope of that until some people die.

The conversation probably went like this:

Probably exactly right.

And don’t forget:

Napier: “Well, where would my office be?”

PTB: “Right next to Allen Greene’s and Tim Jackson’s.”

Napier: “Tim Jackson works in the AD?”

PTB: “Oh no. Well yeah. Sort of. But more like kind of in a way.”

Napier: “What?”

PTB: “How do you feel about cameras in your office?”

Napier: “...”

Napier: You mean the guys that stabbed Gus in the back, no thanks.
If anyone would look back at some of the reports/tweets from late 2018 where Steele was ready, willing, and able to take over for Gus if AU terminated him....then the stabbing in the back could've been in the works for the last 2 yrs.

I just wonder who the heck this guy believes he is. So far he's turned down:
Ole Miss
MS State
South Carolina
Auburn

Really? You've done a decent job in the freaking Sunbelt. Unless he plans to retire at ULL, he's a moron at this point. When he eventually moves to a bigger school, he better win big, and immediately, or he looks like a fool. We finally may have found a coach with a bigger ego than Dan Mullen.

He must be scared of bigger competition or is holding out for LSU and Bama.

It seems to me he is waiting for a perfect fit, big time job that gives him full control over the football program and guarantees him a few years to get his program rolling. Also, wants 5 million + I here

He doesn’t strike me as a guy that will let the admin or boosters tell him how to run a football program

Not really. They just hired a coach that now has the only voice that matters. Once that power dynamic changes, the boosters will get involved again.

The Aub PTB offered a poison pill deal so they can go back to their choice of Steele?

Except he didn't turn us down.

Auburn offered a guy that WE passed on a job. That guy goes on to turn down Auburn when he WANTED our job.

It sounds like Auburn's big money overlords decided to "compromise" with the #StopTheSteele movement by declining to name him HC but make retaining him a requirement for the next coach. I have no words.

I think he is going about it the right way... How often do we see coaches excel, then take a job that puts them in a shitty position where its very hard to win? If you like where you are at, you should 100% stay put until a golden opportunity presents itself.

Of those jobs: Ole Miss, State, and Auburn are in the most competitive division in CFB where you would have to play the greatest coach of all-time, every year. The SC job, your biggest rival is the only school thats on the same level as Alabama, and you have to play UGA, UF, and A&M every year. Hard pass.

Did he really turn down Ole Miss? Maybe because they were still being punished by the NCAA? I thought OM went for Kiffin right out of the gate

I think coaches talk, and the way that Gus went raises some red flags
