You can recruit HS guys, develop guys, play the guys you develop compliment these guys with guys from the portal. The Utah model.
There's truth to this, but I also think it's conditional. An example to the contrary would be Dabo. He never stopped doing this and it's about to get him fired.

There's also the instances where when we have hit on recruits, they get poached within the conference. Pooh Paul is the first that comes to mind. The good recruits get fed up with losing and go win somewhere else. Retention has been a huge issue.

Kudos to you for continuing the fight
I genuinely don't want to, but it's like a reflex. I can't fathom how people can be so tunnel visioned.

It's not like the defense was just sub-par. It was bad on a historical scale.

No, the unlimited transfer portal without having to sit out has been the #1 factor.
Fair point, though I'd argue that goes hand in hand with chasing the money.

I can’t believe how bad Chad Morris was.
He's going to get a run for his money this year. Silverfield is in completely over his head.

Maybe. I'm not convinced this year's defense is that much better to be honest with you. Maybe we'll improve from 130th to 115th, but that's still awful. Keep in mind Silverfield said they'd spent the run up to the season preparing for Utah and still gave up 43.

The difference this year is now we'll just be getting blown out every week instead of losing one score games.

I'm not sure why you continue to deny it occurred.
I have never once denied the 2-10 season happened.

What gets denied is that the reason for those losses had very little to do with Petrino's side of the ball despite the obvious indicators of that being the case.

39 ppg given up defensively in games that weren't against Alabama A&M or Arkansas State, but yeah, blame the offense. This board is full of football geniuses.
Morris. We still had the ability to make a good hire after the wreck and were coming off of an 11-2 season. Should have been easily salvageable.

Morris put this program in the dirt and set the table for expectations lowering from being nationally competitive to just winning a couple of SEC games a year.

I'm done pointing out the obvious to people like you. Stay ignorant.

NIL has little to do with recruiting and development of players who would be apt to staying with the program.
I simply do not agree with this. NIL is the #1 factor in roster shuffles on a yearly basis. Most of the players that aren't chasing the most money possible are that way because their talent doesn't afford them that luxury.

He and Hunter both fought the nil
Which is exactly why I said he'd have been a better coach before the NIL era. All I said was that the timing of his jump to HC was unfortunate for both him and us. Jesus dude calm down. That's not even a contentious statement. He was an objectively elite recruiter pre-NIL.

Last year was a train wreck with BP.
Yeah I hated having a top 20 offense too. This year is way better.

KJ would still be our QB with BP.
KJ went 11/17 for 126 yards and a TD in about 2 quarters against Missouri under BP last year. He outplayed Green.

16/29 for 206 and a TD against Texas, once again having a better game than Green. He never threw an INT until this year.

It's coaching. Chad Silverfield and Craddock Cramsey are arse.

I don't know. He handled things fine before NIL really took off and became the monster it is now. He had no way of knowing college football was about to become a less structured NFL when he decided to try his hand at being a HC for the first time. The job description completely changed after he took the job. He was much more suited to the classic recruiting structure and growing a consistent group of guys over the course of multiple seasons.

Not saying we would have been winning the SEC or anything, but we wouldn't have had the dips into 4-8 territory, IMO.

Stein was as well.
Not sure about this one. He feels like a massive flame out waiting to happen but that's just a gut feeling I have.

It seems like he's trying the Cignetti approach of coming in and acting all badass for a program with no real history but it doesn't really come off the same and I think it's going to backfire.

I actually feel bad for Sam having given a bit more thought to his situation. He'd probably still be our coach and we'd be consistently middle of the pack at bare minimum if his hiring didn't coincide with NIL taking over the game. He'd have been a damn good coach to have before unlimited free agency became the name of the game in college football.

yes, ol Bobby’s reputation for recruiting great defensive players and hiring great defensive coaches is the stuff of legends
Again, just like the retards on the team board.

It has been 15 years since Petrino was fired. We've had a better defense than the one he built one time in that 15 years.
How dare you. We scored more points in the 2nd half than the first. Huge improvement!

They think running the score up on a 1-11 SEC team will be a good resume builder.
