Long wasn't perfect, but he also illustrates just how bad Yurachek is. The Arkansas job was 100x more appealing under his tenure than it currently is under Yurachek. That is objectively true. That's why his hires were an NFL coach and a coach fresh off a Rose Bowl and Yurachek's have been a career OL coach and a coach we had no competition for that couldn't make the AAC title game a single time in 6 years.

Yet he did and we won. A lot. See the difference between that and the Kiffin debacle? The point is it's not just poor lil' Yurachek for not having any support. He's just a bad AD even when compared to previous bad ADs. That's part of the reason why he has a lack of support. It's literally his job to gain it and he can't do it.

Is he 100% of the problem? Of course not. He's certainly a significant part of the equation, though. Vehemently pushing against the model in which you must operate in order to construct a roster and pinching pennies in contract negotiations is obviously going to have a negative effect on what you're capable of building in the current climate. Not to mention he's just not a figure that exudes competence. He floundered just as badly as chair of the committee as he has as our AD. He got clowned on a national scale because he simply does not come across as someone who is confident that he knows what he's talking about. Coaches see that just as easily as the general public can.

It keeps expectations grounded and based on reality. Nothing more or less. If someone being anything other than an eternal blind optimist is a "drain on positive energy" for you, I don't know what to tell you. We aren't the main characters in a Disney movie.

We hired a coach no one else wanted. Talking yourself into believing we got one over on the entire college football world and won the lottery isn't doing you or the program any favors either. It gives leeway and support to leadership like Yurachek that absolutely does not deserve it. Especially after all the talk of "fully committing" and "big investment" in this search. That attitude is just as annoying as the people going too far in the other direction saying we hired another Chad Morris.
