It's more of a subconscious thing. You see the ad constantly and eventually when faced with a decision about what to pick in that category of product there are increased odds you go with the one you think of the most. Like how if you get sideswiped by a semi on 65 North, Shunnarah is hoping his shite eating grin is the last thing you see before losing consciousness and going into the ambulance.

The thing is that this is all literally nothing more than a vanity project for wealthy boosters. People really miss sight of that. There is no ROI on this spending for them the way there is for the owner of a pro sports franchise who pockets the revenue. Indiana makes money, not Mark Cuban. Texas Tech makes money, not Cody Campbell. The market is not going to correct itself. It's a dick swinging contest between billionaires who can light $50 million on fire and not experience any change in their standard of living.

The easiest guardrail to put up is taxing the absolute frick out of "people" like Mark Cuban, Larry Ellison, Cody Campbell, John Ruiz, the Walton family, etc. and all of their businesses so they don't have enough money left over to throw away millions on vanity projects like buying a championship caliber college athletics team.

He should have known that was a mistake when he was done writing a glowing 750 word write up before Hackenburg had completed his throwing motion.

Imagine if crack dealers could sponsor sporting events. Sunday Night Football brought to you by Slim's Corner Pharmacy would have people in an uproar, but no one bats an eye at every sporting event, talk show, podcast, etc. being sponsored by FanDuel, Draft Kings, or BetMGM.

I don't think it would apply to them. If I understand the proposal correctly you'd have 5 years to use up to 5 years of eligibility starting immediately after high school. The 4th year seniors who went into the portal in anticipation of this decision are the only ones the decision not to apply it retroactively would affect.

I wouldn't even give him that much credit. Shedeur has a lot more arm talent than Pavia. He just doesn't have franchise QB arm talent and he's an arrogant a-hole, which caused him to fall a few rounds. Pavia barely has college starter arm talent, he's short, he's a mediocre athlete, and he's an arrogant a-hole. He's already not an NFL QB based on the arm, but he can't play anywhere else either because he's small and slow, and he's too much of a stupid douchebag to even be of value in film study. If he ever sniffs an NFL roster I'd be floored.

Haven is a more accurate passer than Arch was at the same stage though.
This is what I immediately see when watching him. Once you get past the strange throwing motion he's just putting ball after ball right on the money, and from what I've found his team has had 1 D1 WR recruit while he has been there and that guy signed with South Alabama. So he's not out there slinging it around to a bunch of kids who are open by 5+ yards and picking up YAC in chunks. Even if you completely disregard his production as a runner because he's a vastly superior athlete to most of the other guys on the field his passing numbers are still pretty legit.

His announcement didn't exactly sound like a goodbye either. He almost certainly intended to enter for feedback with the obvious caveat that a team may decide they have to have him and make him a guarantee. He needs to come back though. If he makes a jump like most good players do in year 2 under Oats he probably goes in the lottery of a much less stacked draft next year.

Maybe I'm blind, but I don't think he's a truly fantastic athlete. He's mobile, but not like Cam or anything. I think his arm talent is what makes him special.

As far as what it means for the program, it doesn't mean anything other than boosters having to spend money they haven't had to spend for the last 20 years thanks to Saban if we have to fire him in a year or two.
As far as what it represents, it's just another sign of how we got to this shitty, fricked up version of college athletics that currently exists. Who the frick else gets a 20% raise every 2 years for not doing a bad job?

Bristow's complete lack of offense was honestly kind of confusing to me. He's not a bad FT shooter. He made 33% of his 3s at a not insignificant volume (64 attempts) as a freshman, albeit at a lower level. So he's got some skill. We're not talking about a guy who is incapable of scoring more than 4 feet away from the basket unless he lucks into making a FT ala Nick Pringle. He did at least show up on the glass when he was able to play, but just like Williamson he looked like he had never actually tried to put the ball through the hoop before. You have to hope that with another year he can become a bit more of a 2 way guy. Obviously they think a lot of him since he's coming back after hardly playing, injury or not.

I don't know if I want that kind of player as a wing, but I do think we should just recruit big, tall kids who can shut down the paint on defense, rebound on both ends, and catch lobs at the 5 even if they can barely dribble a basketball.

Yeah, but if they can get him up to 240 without sacrificing a lot of athleticism he could be a monster. He's raw, but you can see the speed to power conversion and first step get off. I'm not a huge fan of words like if, but, could, might, etc. when it comes to high school recruits though. If they aren't guys you are 100% positive will be able to contribute by year 2 at the latest you should wait to sign them when they hit the portal.

The dumbass never should have left. All he had to do was develop his jumper and Nate might have gotten him to the NBA like Herb.

He wants to be a big part of someone's offense without having to leave major conference basketball. I guess I get it, but it's also total delusion on his part. And playing for Will Wade? Really? Yeah, frick him. I hope the welcome he gets from the student section next year makes this year look polite.

Yeah, basically an athletic, but somewhat unskilled, 5 in the body of a 3. So the guys typically guarding him can cut off his drives pretty easily because of that lack of suddenness and lateral agility. He's a big 3/small ball 4 though, so if he turns himself into a good 3pt shooter and defender he can definitely have an NBA career. If you're 6'7"-6'10", able to shoot, and willing and able to play defense they'll pay you. You have to be able to do more than that to be a star though, and he was billed as having much more of a scoring bag and handle than he has.

I think the fact that we haven’t had anyone on the perimeter who can rise through contact instead of trying to finagle a scoop layup is something we’ve been missing on offense.
Agreed. It's a big reason we struggle to score inside against teams like UTk and UF. If the defense has a bunch of big goons in the paint you're not getting a whistle unless you force them to body you at the rim. Trying to finesse the ball in plays into their hands. You have to have a few guys who can throw the hammer down either off a drive, cut, or lob.
Tony Mitchell without the shitty attitude and inconsistent motor would be a great outcome for Richardson.
