OR Tim Jackson, Bo Jackson and another AU booster interviewed him? Who knows, but to turn down an Auburn offer is odd as hell.
According to the earlier article:

Interviews have been conducted by three committee members - athletics director Allen Greene, university COO Gen. Ron Burgess and trustee Quentin Riggins, a former All-SEC Auburn linebacker.

I can't wait for Bill Clark to turn them down next. Kevin Steele may get this thing by default.

After all of the times that boosters have sunk top tier programs (Florida is one of them for the last decade) you'd think they'd have the understanding of just giving the guy his chance.
So goddamn stupid when people think having money makes them qualified to do jobs simply because of their capital.

Thing is, keeping Steele as DC would actually be a good move. He’s definitely a top 5 DC, nothing wrong with auburn D since he got there, it in fact carried auburn to any recent success they had. But I can definitely understand a prospective coach balking when told they have to keep someone when hired

Damn Auburn. I thought our boosters and AD were incompetent

We had meddlesome boosters before Fisher. I have to give Woodward credit for getting them all on the same page, and letting Fisher do his thing. Now they just write checks

Auburn is 110 miles from Atlanta dummy.
Bad geography is bad. Now saying that the Atlanta metro has more Auburn grads then anywhere else.

It takes a couple of dogshit coaches for boosters to realize that they're just the sugar daddies and that's it. There are a lot of rumors that Meyer left because he was being forced to go to the Bama Blueprint, and Muschamp tried to emulate it (McElwain was also a Pro-style with spread players).
Makes my blood boil, because boosters can set a program back a decade by trying to get their way.

Ouch Public turn down is never good. You don’t offer the job unless you know it’s yes. Like asking a chick to marry you.

I had not heard this. So UF boosters tried to strong arm a 2 time MNC HC and wound up running him off? If true, holy shite.
