It amazes me how we can be 'smarter' than a new HC and coaching staff that has an idea what they want and where they want to shore up the RB roster.

Not saying this is the case with Harsin, but we saw it first hand with Gus. A lot of times the problem with these coaches is their egos and they convince themselves they are the smartest person in the room.

Gus won a natty with a mobile QB as OC and played for another as HC and then totally abandoned that template and went on a 7 year run of mediocrity. Sometimes maybe things are easier to see from the outside.

Can we at least give them more than 2 months on the job before we go there?

I think I'm gonna put an Auburn branded jump to conclusions mat on the market.

He changed his offense because everyone said he had too. That his offense was "figured out". It needed to be more balanced.

My biggest issue with him. He let the outside noise sway him. 90% of the people on this board was begging for a "balanced offense" after 2014.

The offense did not change. The personnel changed because Gus is a terrible scout of talent.

So true it is funny people actually believe we hired a guy for his offense, he went to the title game, then our big bad boosters made him change his offense.

This stance would make sense if his pre-Auburn offenses revolved around running quarterbacks. This isn't even remotely accurate. His Tulsa offense was what he envisioned with Bo Nix types here at Auburn. Remember, he CAME to Arkansas as OC with Mitch Mustain as the "prize QB". Was Mitch Mustain a read-option QB? Uhhh, no.

His first offense here as OC was the Chris Todd offense. Again, zero QB running.

What REALLY happened is that what you saw in most seasons here was the "Gus offense". The Cam and Nick Marshall QB-option offense was the reluctant change for him, NOT the other way around. You want to know how you can confirm that? Look at the first ~3 games of the season with Cam in 2010: he didn't even KNOW that he could just build the offense around Cam's legs. He literally tripped into that success that season.

If anything, his problem seemed to be that he HIMSELF didn't want to be a "running QB offense guy". Like he was embarrassed that he had to resort to that.

But also, I've pointed it out before: that type of offense is extremely hard to put together. 2010 and 2013 were "perfect storm" type seasons where all the pieces were in place for him. What happened in 2014 when we lost the blocking? NicK Marshall was still here, but we weren't just running up and down the field on everyone.

Dylan Brooks update. Tenn is planning on releasing him from his NLI, but will not release him from his SEC agreement. That means if he wants to play for an SEC team that he would have to sit out a year.

Tennessee is acting like a clingy ex-girlfriend.

If true, I hope sanctions/negative recruiting decimates them.

He can appeal it. I’d imagine he’s got a good shot at winning it too

If Brooks and UT are down to this kind of battle, it seems like it would be hard to be all-in if he decided to stay.

What if the SEC had that rule fir coaches? I hope DB wins an appeal and UT chokes for another 15 years.

With as inconsistent as the NCAA is I'm not sure I would say he has a good shot.. he SHOULD have a good shot, but we've all seen decisions from them that make no sense. Also have to wonder if the family can afford a lawyer or even want to go that route. Tenn is putting Dylan and his family though a lot.

Umm, our offense was pretty balanced in 2014 and was awesome. You may be right about people saying that but anyone complaining about our offense at that point was pretty dumb.

There's also some question as to whether this is an NCAA type appeal or an SEC appeal. Apparently some wording with the NCAA appeals might not cover a conditional release.

Gus should have kept running HIS offense and recruiting players for HIS system.

Tom Osborne ran the same thing at Nebraska for 25 years. Same formula.
Option QBs from Florida who were exceptional runners & decent passers.
Skill position players from California.
Local kids from Nebraska, Iowa & the Dakotas who were road graders.

What Tom Osborne didn't do was worry about developing a passing QB for the NFL. Nebraska was a 10-win, Top 10, NC contending team damn near every I can remember until he retired after the 1997 season...a season that the won the NC.

That's where Gus messed up. Gus read too much into the BS and stopped doing what got him the AU job...and it ultimately cost him the job, too.

Umm what?

We were running up and down the field on everyone but UGA (where we were completely shut down).

The problem was everyone was running up and down the field on us too.

Here’s the points we put up that season:
45, 59, 20 (KSU), 45, 41, 23 (a billion turnovers against MSU), 42, 35, 38, 7 (UGA), 31, 44, 31

I would argue 2014 was a more lethal offense than 2013. Marshall could somewhat pass that year.

Yeah honestly I loved the 2014 offense. We had the potential to put up crazy yards on the ground and through the air. Our defense was just atrocious.
