re: Grammy winner Jeff Tweedy to direct royalties to reparations fund in hometown Chicago.

How does money solve this?
Royalties. There are generations of black families that have lost out on significant amounts of money because a family member in the past was taken advantage of at one time or another.
Imagine if one of your grandparents wrote a bunch of songs that Elvis made popular, but because they didn't know any better at the time, since they likely got shitty educations(or in some cases weren't even allowed to go to college because of the color of their skin), and they were never fully compensated for those songs. Yet, some white record company exec continues to get royalties on those songs because his grandfather took advantage of your grandfather at the time.
It's a dark side of the history of this country in that very often, rich white men took advantage of black people to further themselves and their wealth. And there are generational wealth gaps in black America that exist because of that.

Another article about this with quotes on why Tweedy decided to do this as well as some contextual quotes from people like Little Richard and how he got fricked over.

He's been talking about this for a while. This article is from last June.

Tweedy opened his statement by noting that the modern music industry is “built almost entirely on black art” and that “the wealth that rightfully belonged to black artists was stolen outright and to this day continues to grow outside their communities.” He went on to effectively call for reparations for decades of music industry exploitation and the creation of “some initiative that would allow us all to redirect a portion of our revenue to the communities that have been deprived of it.”

I think that's probably the biggest reason. Everyone wants to go on vacation right now. You can usually find options up to a few weeks out, but there's virtually nothing left now.
We had plans with two other families that fell through about two weeks ago and had to scramble to find something. I happened to find a 7 bedroom house on Alligator Point, FL, but I looked from basically Gulf Shores to there and from Jacksonville up to Myrtle Beach and there are almost no options unless you want to get a place that's a really long walk or short drive to the water.

I was a big Andrew Bird fan back in the day, but this is very different from what you normally hear from him. I've only listened to a couple of songs so far but am liking what I'm hearing.
That song sounds a lot like what he did on Hands of Glory. Such a good album. The cover of Townes Van Zandt's If I Needed You on there is fantastic.

Its about a mile hike up to the mountain and there is also other hiking trails and you can also camp there if thats your thing.
I wouldn't camp there. They have camping space and yurts, but they're all kind of crammed together next to the lake.
The hike up isn't bad, but there are several pretty nice hiking trails in the park. There's a good one that not too many people are usually on - Kings Trail. It's on a little island and a nice 20 minute or so hike with lake views pretty much the entire time.
Trail Maps - LINK
And the golf courses are pretty nice. Preview the Lakemont course, but Stonemont is fun too.

Probably didn’t like the way Auburn handled his injury. I imagine he probably felt like he could come back sooner and Auburn kept saying no.
Doubtful. His parents had to come down to live with him for a couple months after the injury. Rumors that he actually fractured his skull too. He couldn't study, look at bright light, etc for a while without getting bad headaches. It was a very serious injury.
I think he may just want to get back closer to home after this.

And mushrooms are now not illegal there. That's a recipe for a hilarious bachelor party.

See, the dang LG machines are highly rated in practically every online analysis, but I’ve heard zero good things from actual owners.
We have an LG top load high efficiency that is fantastic. Had it for almost 6 years now and no issues(knock on wood). It's huge. It spins so fast that the clothes are mostly dry when you put em in the dryer.

The Last Waltz and Stop Making Sense are the two best, imo.
re: Where to rent a cabin or house in Alabama/Georgia/Tenn area?
Posted by kage on 3/3/21 at 1:21 pm
There are some great houses on Lake Blue Ridge and Nottely in N Ga. If it's in the summer, these are somewhat in the mountains, so you might get some heat relief.
Lots of spots on air bnb and vrbo.
Not sure if it's too far east, but from Lake Jocasse down to Keowee and down Hartwell in SC have lots of houses available in the summer usually.
I stayed at a massive house on Keowee a few years ago. Probably had 12-14 adults and 8 kids comfortably.

I'm headed to Zion/Bryce on a guys trip at the end of October that was postponed from last May and those pics got me pretty excited.
I also have two boys - 8 and 4 - and we're going to start taking them to at least one national park a year starting next year. Very excited about that.

She will be retired until she's not.....
Sounds like a publicity stunt or she realizes she can't lead a flick and doesn't want to do ensemble work being a cog in the wheel.
Her estimated net worth is ~$80mm and she will continue raking in dough from things like Harry Potter, Beauty and the Beast, etc., so I don't think she's too worried about publicity at this point.

If you want a somewhat satisfying ending...stop after S8E3. But with only 3 episodes after that, you might as well follow through and finish.
That'd be like running a marathon and stopping at mile 25 because you knew the last 1.2 miles was not going to be fun. Just finish the damn thing.

If we're only talking Atlanta, I'd have to say:
Aaron
Jones
Maddux
Murphy
Enter through the Bobby Cox Welcome Center and you can ride the Glavine/Smoltz tram to the top for a great view.

I think the last season is a completely different experience to someone who knows nothing about GOT going in and just binges it blindly.
Millions of viewers had read the books and were doing Sunday night watch parties with their friends for several years. The ending was going to be letdown to some degree for most fans.
Good point. I hadn't read the books, so I think if I had, I probably would have been more disappointed. By the time I'm done with the books, and I end up watching the last two, I'll probably be more let down than I initially was.

I like Succession but the profanity and crudeness is over the top. It's like WOWS x1000. It takes a lot for me to even notice that stuff, much less find it distracting.
I agree to an extent. It's not necessarily the profanity, but Roman is just over the top. If they toned him down some, I think it would actually make the show even better than it is.
We get it. He's a weird creep, but we don't have to be reminded of that pretty much every time he speaks.

Agreed with those that say to watch the whole thing. When it was on, I watched the first 5 seasons, then they had that long break before season 6, so I watched the first 5 again, then 6, 7 and 8.
I'm doing it again, but reading each book and then going back and watching the corresponding season to see how different they are.
I'm about 300 pages into book 3 now and finishing season 2. I'm going to read ahead a good bit before I start season 3 because the show jumps around in the book timeline quite a bit and there were a handful of things I'd forgotten about that spoiled those things in the book for me when I watched season 1 and got into 2.
But yeah, it's just such a damn good series even though the ending was certainly not ideal. Still some good parts in 7 and 8 I thought, but overall, not so great.
I also forgot how much I liked the Hound. Some of his one liners are amazing.
Beric - We will meet again Clegane.
The Hound - ...fricking hope not.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Auburn does in state this year. It’s a talented class and Harsin and staff are in a tough spot as new coaches and no campus or in-person visits allowed
Is this for official visits? There were definitely unofficial in person visits happening last year at many schools. Not sure if they're putting their foot down on that or not.
I'd think by the time fall rolls around and vaccines are widely distributed, they'll probably allow in person official visits.
