We’re starting to make a mess of this thread.

On the unranked/3* front — the only point is that it’s extremely early in the 2022 cycle and the recruiting services are treading water right now without events to scout these guys at. You can get useful information from highlight reels but they’re typically not representative of the whole player.

In Cody Brown — Auburn has a need at RB. But does Harsin want another freshman back or an upperclassman transfer after Spring that can step in and contribute behind Tank? That’s unknown right now.

On paper it seems obvious that we’d take Brown but it might not even be about talent at all. It might just be about experience and balancing the depth chart. Also seems unknown what’s going on with MAR

I could have sworn KN confirmed MAR and Joyner we're both out a few weeks ago. Maybe I missed something since then?

Personally I still believe we need 2 more RBs. 1 transfer and 1 HS. That would let us play Tank, Shivers, transfer, and whoever is the best out of the 2 freshman RBs. I'm not sure we will actually take 2 though.. but I just don't see Barrett contributing much and think we need the depth.

Edit-- The guy I want for our 2nd QB, Thomas Castellanos, just got offered by FSU. I really hope we get in on him.. I really believe his recruitment is going to explode this year after more evals get done.

Harsin said he’d have 5 by fall

Tank
Shivers
Barrett
Hunter

So the question becomes who the 5th will be.

On MAR, I don’t know. I’m not expecting him to be back but he’s too talented to have not found a home through the portal. So he’s either staying or waiting until after Spring ball to see if a better spot comes open

Also doesn’t seem like MAR has transferred. So I’m not sure if he’s coming back or not. I don’t think a reporter has asked about that

Thanks Jonesy, answered my question before I asked.

I will say, there is no one in the portal who has the skill set of MAR. Before we get stars in our eyes over someone from Tennessee, as my grandmother used to say....ya dance with the one what brung ya.

Given the fact that he has not announced another school, and I can guarantee his phone has been ringing, Im bettin he is gonna give us a chance.

For the record I still agree with everything being said about the OL. I'm just keeping a realistic picture and saying its most likely going to take a few years to get the OL situation fixed unless we happen to find some guys who can play early or have a few years of eligibility. Still plenty of time to find transfers and recruits who fit that too. Its just important to manage expectations and not expect the OL as a whole (depth, starters, class balance) to get fixed in 1 year.. maybe not even 2.

I think the realistic on here realize that, its why there is such alarm when we kept letting the years tick by without taking people.

The scary thing for us, the five bama signed in the last class are probably better than any five we could field now...and they wont see playing time for another year given their depth, got em stacked like cord wood over there.

Top #10 rated rb. Position of need... get on the phone Harsin.

I see you and raise you, MAR was the #4 ranked ath and 90th overall and has been in our system 2 years.

And Im doing all this plugging for free, seriously, I just hate to see one get away with never giving them a chance. Had he gotten some carries early last year this discussion would be mute.

Latest word from KN as of about 20 mins ago is Auburn has decided not to pursue Cody Brown. I'm just going to keep hoping they have a plan.. they have passed on every transfer RB so far too. I really hope they aren't depending on Barrett for much.

He's not a HS recruit any longer, he's been enrolled and knows what it's like here, and had more than enough time to ask if there's a spot for him.

... and more importantly why's this in the 2022 thread?

Barrett was similarly ranked to Cody Brown as a RB coming out of HS. 168th nationally on 247 composite and 11th RB. Brown is the 232nd nationally and 10th RB.

I find it hard to believe that Barrett couldn’t pick up right where he left off. Every RB on the roster will be learning a new offense so it’s a level playing field.

Seems applicable to the roster (Harsin wants 5 backs, we have 4) decisions that could be filled with either Brown (2021) or a transfer. And it probably determines the 2022 approach. It’s fine for now As long as we don’t get too far down the rosterbation hole

Speaking of Cody Brown, latest info out of 247 is that Auburn isn’t likely to pursue Brown.

KN mentioned Mizzou and UCF as schools to watch.

Jonesy really struggling...

Putting 2021 info in 2022. Repeating posts that have already been posted...

Where was that info posted previously? Because KN posted it about an hour beforehand.

Edit: I see jt’s post now. No harm.

I’ve already decided to keep up with 2021 stuff here. Sorry if you don’t like that I asked and nobody had an opinion. Ultimately, this is just an ongoing recruiting thread that we start over every year after the first Wednesday of February. There was plenty of 2022 and 2023 stuff in the 2021 thread.

I’ll say it. This doesn’t seem very smart. I’ll wait and see what happens, but RB position isn’t good at Auburn outside of Tank Bigsby.

It amazes me how we can be 'smarter' than a new HC and coaching staff that has an idea what they want and where they want to shore up the RB roster.

And I am sure they do more deep dive evals with better info that we'll ever see.

And I don't mind the '21 recruiting stuff mixed in, since we don't have a ton of recruiting stuff around this time of year. It makes it easier too to read one thread. I'm 'smart' enough to figure it out.

We clearly don’t have all of the information. That’s usually the case when things make sense but don’t happen
