and I think he is a better coach than most believe. He was handicapped at Memphis with changes in NIL, Revenue Sharing, and some Donors. I have a very close friend who knows the situation well. FWIW.

I keep hearing that he had more money than most of the AAC.
Looking at the rest of that conference, I find it hard to believe Memphis has more money than universities from Texas and Florida.
They have FedEx and I can't think of anything else from Memphis.
It's Memphis, it should be a handicap.

BUT I’m very impressed with what he’s done so far with NIL and raising money for the program (somehow he convinces ppl to believe in him).
If he can get some high level players from the portal with the NIL funds he might end up an average SEC coach, which would be impressive considering.
If he can raise some serious cash, get people to buy in and go get some really good assistants, he could win. Still need people with eyes for talent and make that money go further. Just pissing away cash does nothing.

He’s head and shoulders over two of our last three coaches and, at a minimum, on par with Bert who I actually still think is a good coach when he stays sober.
I’m gun-shy just like most Hog fans but I have been impressed with his work ethic, attention to detail, and for the most part how he carries himself. He has shown a lot of positive attributes, IMO, and it appears to be rubbing off on players and staff just based on the way they are carrying themselves and the things they say. It’s like night and day from the old, tired, and lazy previous staff.
I don’t expect huge things this year but I do honestly believe we are going to be a lot better than most are expecting. Not sure how many wins that will translate into this year but I think Silverfield is laying a strong foundation for the future and will get us back to where we need and deserve to be as long as he gets the appropriate level of support.
And this is coming from a guy that was strongly in the “we should’ve just stuck with Petrino” club.

Don’t go read the homework then or you’ll be disappointed. We’ve discussed ad nauseam his zero AAC titles or title game appearances (despite being at arguably the 2nd best AAC program), and barely above .500 in conference games, behind both Fuentes and Norvell, each of which flamed out at better football programs than ours.
But here’s to hoping I’m wrong. And FTR, I think he’s better than Fuentes.

I mean he has much more of a proven track record as a head coach than either Morris or Pittman did. He at least has an 11-win season under his belt. Every situation is different though.

I will say I think he understands how to build a football roster in the modern age. If you look at our recruiting almost 50% of the class is lineman. Build the line from within the program and you can plug and play skill guys via portal if needed

Yeah but this doesn't really mean anything for either side of the equation. You can find the reverse for coaches that have won those things and then completely bottomed out once poached, just as common. There is really no correlation for those type of things.

Building a roster these days is just identifying your needs and being the highest bidder for those players.
We're still having to shop at Dollar General, hoping some it turns out pretty good. And there will also be some duds that looked okay on the surface.

Real schools don’t get a figure it out year. Indiana went 11-2 in Cignetti first year. Do I think that could happen? No. No one is rowing the boat in the same direction above the coach.

Aggie with Fisher is all the proof of this anyone should need. Sure, that was largely before NIL. But it's not like there wasn't some money going on under the table anyway.

I don't necessarily disagree. I found it rather bold for them to just come out and say it like that. IIRC it was Crowley that said it in an a podcast interview.
