I get that you need monsters to compete in the SEC but it seems like sometimes we chase projects like Ian Geffrard and Devon Manuel for no other reason than because they’re huge. The Utah DT with the vicious spin move that made our OL look stupid was only like 280 lbs. We wouldn’t have gone after Dampier due to his size either but schools like Utah prioritize good football players over prototypical build.

Eh I’m willing to give him another shot with a full cycle with how well-regarded he is in the industry. We’d be even worse without guys like Joker Johnson, Ben Bogle, Christian Harrison, Khmori House or Chris Marshall.

We’re not going to attract high-level talent in our current state so his only option is trying to find diamonds in the rough which won’t always work out.

This gets said a lot but I’m not sure it’s actually true. He had more TDs and passing yards because we threw the ball more but nearly every other QB metric got worse from 2007.

It’s hard for me to fault Silverfield too much even as alarming as we looked on Saturday since he blew out North Alabama twice while at Memphis much worse than this. I don’t think he’s forgotten what to do since then with better talent (on paper) now. I’m willing to give the team time to gel and acclimate to the scheme but we better improve a whole lot throughout the season.

I’m in the same boat but at the same time I’m not sure what “obvious improvement and being competitive” really looks like for me since we’re already competitive as can be in most games without winning them. Improved situational decision making I suppose would be good to see but losing a different way is still losing. Have to win a couple conference games for it to feel like progress IMO.

State has averaged slightly more than us for a while now though most years. Even before the last re-seating.

Walker White isn’t even starting at UCA heading into fall camp. Remember there being a lot of debate about how good he actually was from people who watched him play in HS

Hobbs has gotten some MLB pitching coach interest before though. Think the Yankees interviewed him a few years back.

Wicklander was solid. There are some guys who have improved (Noland, McElvain) but it’s definitely a mixed bag.

The university hires consulting firms to do everything these days. I guess that’s common in most businesses but I’m not convinced it leads to the best product all the time.

Agree overall but we’ve seen a lot that talented individual players don’t always make a great team. Our team with Grant Morgan, Hayden Henry and those guys was our best in a long time and several weren’t really draft prospects.

Seems like a good eval by the staff. Cal is known for getting the cream of the crop but seems to have good luck with identifying the right guys hovering around the 40’s-50’s like Richmond too
