Nobody really played up to their potential yesterday.

To be fair I doubt many teams we play this year end up only hitting one 3 pointer against us either. MSU didn’t play great, makes it even more frustrating.

Not a Big 10 guy at all but them adding Oregon and USC helped close the gap a lot. Them along with Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State is traditionally a really good top of the league before you even get to Wisconsin and the like.

Do you really believe with how intense BP is that this would still be a problem if he were the HC all season?

I don’t really think intensity in practice has any correlation with losing the ball while fighting for extra yards in the heat of the moment, no.

Think about it. Bert won rose bowls, chaggy was somehow credited with Clemson's offensive success, and Pittman was tied to the "success" pre chaggy and with Smarts success at UGA. The top names being thrown around now are familiar names in the sec 15 years ago or coached for a familiar name in the SEC during that time. This isn't going to result in a Cignetti.

Yeah I guess that’s why I’m not really concerned with how many openings there are. Every other school is just as likely to get it wrong going after the flashy name as we are. More important that we get it right than what everyone else is doing. Don’t care if Florida hires the next Napier who everyone apparently wants as long as we don’t end up with the next Pittman.

It's almost like we should have fired Pitman last year (which was already too late) when there was less competition.

To be fair no one else fired their coach either so the other schools with coaches on the hot seat are probably saying the same thing about their AD. It wasn’t just HY waiting until revenue sharing was implemented.

I get everyone’s point about there being so many other openings but I guess the question is this - would you rather stick with BP knowing what you’re getting to an extent or go with a high-risk, high-reward option like Bob Chesney at JMU knowing not many other P4 schools are going after him? It may fail but Indiana took that risk with Cignetti and made a lot of better programs look silly.

Golesh and Lashlee both lost today too. It’s hard not to be reactionary to every coaching option during the season without finding some warts.

Golesh lost today too. Hard to tell who’s the best candidate week to week

What’s crazy is a lot of those guys on defense are P4 transfers and the offense is G5 and FCS guys. Really puzzling

I think I’d rather have a productive FCS starter like Andrew Armstrong over a part-time starter or someone buried on a depth chart at a bigger school like Crutchfield. Just seems like they hit more often.
We’ve completely seemed to ignore recruiting Arkansas over the last few years. NIL probably plays somewhat of a factor and I know the product isn’t great but a lot of the top ranked in-state players have said we show little to no interest in them for whatever reason.

His awful record against their rivals and in big games is what did him in. I think the Richt comparison is pretty accurate. Though it’s going to be hard for them to get past Ohio State and Michigan no matter who the coach is.

A lot of teams missed on Cignetti coming out of JMU. Don’t think anyone saw this run coming.
That seems to indicate the funds weren’t there for Pittman because they didn’t think he was a good enough coach to leverage them but that they plan on opening up the floodgates for a new hire.

2022 was the year to make the change. The A&M and Liberty losses that year showed you who he was.

Those were bad but it’s still a tough sell coming off of 9-4 and 7-6 at Arkansas.

4-8 with how pitiful the offense was definitely should have though. That’s consistent regression.
It doesn’t matter how many other schools there are to compete with IMO. Everyone and their mother would have hired Napier over Cignetti. We need an AD that can evaluate the right fit and look down the road at who can be successful, not just the flashy names that everyone is after. Those aren’t a slam dunk either.

To be fair we got closer to beating Bama doing that than we ever did since we last beat them lol

You think basketball would get the funding it does if we hired the basketball equivalent of Sam Pittman?

Do you think Tyson would donate the way he is if he wasn’t best friends with Cal? He certainly wasn’t under Muss. Our basketball NIL isn’t coming from the average fan.
We had a jump on Ole Miss when they hired Kiffin too but it didn’t matter since they swooped in and got him late anyway. No matter when we start looking or even if we have an agreement in place ASAP nothing is set in stone when they could change their mind at the next better opening

Same amount of scholarships I believe. That’s why most schools offer more women’s sports like soccer or volleyball without a men’s equivalent to make up for the massive football rosters

Need to find our Tyson for football. Too bad one of the Waltons isn’t best friends with Saban.
In his defense, the people asking the questions need to be more specific and phrase questions better instead of just asking him to vaguely talk about his record in close games like they’ve asked 100 times before. Ask about actual decisions he made in the game and what all went into it instead
They were going all-in to buy players under Freeze even before it was legal. I’m not surprised their NIL is what it is and I’m not sure it wouldn’t still be that way without Kiffin. Their admin/fans just seem more committed to doing whatever it takes to win than our culture does.
