The BOT isn't going to be all in on paying players.

Looking at the history of Arkansas, they haven't shown any evidence in the past of having bagmen unlike Alabama or Oklahoma.

They aren't an aggressive program that likes to get in front. They are more passive and will wait it out and see how things fold out.

You can't do that in the day of NIL and the portal.

This is why they are behind most if not all SEC programs.

So they are just waiting on some level of a cap if that will happen.

You're on, my charity choice is either Shriners Hospital Network or St. Judes. One or the other, I'm indifferent and donate to both each year.

A salary cap brings all parties on the same competitive playing field.

This is what the pro sports enforce and as a result you don't see very many dynasties and you have parity.

What led to the NIL and the portal is the Nick Saban dynasty. The NCAA, the ruling government body has been softer on infractions committed by elite programs. Back in the past it wasn't like that and they enforced the rules, they punished some of the biggest cash cows in the nation. They found out that isn't good for business and let programs like Alabama pretty much get away with murder because they are too big to punish.

It's all about money and it just wouldn't make much sense to put these programs on probation when they make the most money for the brand.

So the NCAA showed favoritism towards Alabama and by all means should have been given the death penalty decades ago.

This causes resentment from college football fans all across the nation. Alabama was cheating more than they ever done and the NCAA looked the other way as they dominated the sport. People were getting tired of Alabama and unchecked advantages provided by the NCAA.

So in order to destroy the dynasty and the NCAA. NIL and the portal had to happen and if it destroyed college football then so be it, just as long as both parties are stripped of power.

And it worked. The Saban dynasty came to an end and Saban himself retired earlier than expected because he no longer had the advantages that he enjoyed and would have slipped further. Now Alabama has lost eight games in two years, that shows that the NIL and the portal is making the playing field more even.

Unfortunately that has spiraled out of control. Now the most wealthy universities will dominate. Alabama doesn't have that kind of money and programs like LSU are so desperate that the governor has to get involved and I'm very positive he is using taxpayer money to fund football, basketball and baseball.

Without some cap, the more wealthy programs will dominate and poor programs like Mississippi State will never have a chance.

So a salary cap is very necessary and it won't stop other types of funds from coming to these universities. This is where the NCAA steps in. But since they no longer do the job they solely exist for, the conferences are breaking away from the NCAA.

Pretty lazy take to say he’s CM 2.0. I think he’s a solid coach. Will he succeed here? Who knows, but our fans are showing how shitty they are before a game has been played. I’m waiting to see what kind of team he fields before forming an opinion of him.

Silverfied isn't the problem.

It's Arkansas that will make it hard for him.

He's been a head coach for 6 years. It's not like there's nothing to form an opinion off of. I'm sorry but finishing .500 or worse half of the time in the AAC at a program coming off of 3 conference titles in 6 years under two different coaches without ever winning one himself, despite the longest tenure there, just doesn't scream SEC success story to me. It's never a good thing when fans of the team he's leaving are thanking you for hiring him away.

I'm obviously not saying fire the guy before the ball is ever snapped, but surely it's not hard to see why expectations are what they are both inside and outside of the fanbase. It's not just jaded Arkansas fans. Literally no one expects this to go well.

Silverfied would be a fine coach at any SEC program that isn't as dysfunctional as Arkansas.

He didn't have to take this job, if I was him I would have waited for better job openings. I think he had to make his move because Memphis fans were getting a little frustrated.

I think if he had a better season, he would have been a hotter name. But he cooled off later in the season. The other hires from the AAC had better seasons and were more attractive to other programs.

Arkansas got passed over a lot in the coaching search. Many programs passed over Silverfied as well. So it is a good fit for both misfits.

I really hope he has success here. Because if he doesn't then Arkansas will have the reputation as the graveyard for coaches.
