Replace Memphis with Kentucky and you could be very well talking about Calipari.
Except everyone knows you aren't comparing apples to apples when talking about Kentucky basketball fans and Memphis football fans. Kentucky basketball fans are utterly delusional. Memphis fans just wanted their current coach to live up to the standard their last two coaches met.

I feel like some of the screw jobs we got down the stretch were the league office sending a message that BP was not welcome back in the SEC. No other way to explain the Miss State fiasco.
The State game was egregious. People love to bring up the penalty numbers but never talk about how utterly horseshite at least half of those calls were. We were not a bad penalty team overall.

Penalties by game number/yardage:

Bama A&M: 3 for 20
Arkansas State: 8 for 74
Ole Miss: 7 for 68
Memphis: 7 for 55
Notre Dame: 6 for 60
Tennessee: 1 for 10
Texas A&M: 9 for 71
Auburn: 3 for 12
Mississippi State: 18 for 193
LSU: 6 for 55
Texas: 9 for 65
Missouri: 16 for 121

So we're supposed to believe we went from 12 yards in penalties to setting a school record over the course of a week? At home? Then right back to season average the next week. Conversely, State was called for a total of 4 penalties. Their second lowest total all season. I don't know about the whole anti-Bobby P narrative, but something was up in the State game specifically. Call it tin foil but that game just smells fishy.

Weren’t most of those personal foul calls too? Types that were subjective that you could theoretically call for anything

Yeah we averaged well over 10 yards per penalty so a good chunk of them would have been 15 yarders. I remember some late hit calls that were atrocious.

To kinda balance out the negativity of my last few posts, I will say I really like the Crowley hire at GM. He was impressive at Arizona and hearing him talk about his approach I think we might have hit a home run with that hire. He has the right mindset you need to build a productive roster at a school in our situation.

After watching a few games last year it was obvious that the SEC was trying to send a message to Arkansas. Some of the prior games we were actually in we would have a penalty called to negate a decent gain, it wasn't about the number of penaltys but more about the timing. The MS game was just the icing on the cake IMHO. That was the game that they drove the point of not having Petrino back in the SEC at all.

It sucked to be us last year

The Sam Pittman teams from his first season to his last were pretty bad to terrible in penalties.

Nutt and Petrino teams were average to slightly bad.

The Chad years were average as well.

The Bert years and to his credit were very good and one of his strengths.

I do agree that many of penalties in that Mississippi State was bad but late in the second half, Petrino lost his composure and got a 15 yard penalty. He pissed off the refs and they really watched Arkansas like a hawk, Arkansas gave them enough to look at and just started throwing them. It's ok to defend your team and argue with the refs. In the end you will not win any argument and you can make things worse for yourself and the team.

It was an inexcusable loss and they did everything to lose that game. Had Petrino and the team had better composure and not let frustration get the best of them, they win that game.

I don't believe in conspiracy theories and the SEC office doesn't have it out for Arkansas when they haven't been relevant since 2011 and is no threat to the old guard of the SEC.

Now when they were average to good that is a different story altogether but the SEC office doesn't care and isn't going to protect a shitty Mississippi State team.

Arkansas has and will always be a red headed stepchild of the SEC when comes to hierarchy. Arkansas is only in the SEC because they didn't get what they wanted at first. They needed an SECCG and they had to settle for what is left.

Someone that assumes the negative and lets it affect their attitude negatively to the point of posting about it online is retarded.

This is a board for discussing Arkansas Athletics. Football season is on the cusp of starting. We suck and have for a while.

Therefore it's not unreasonable to discuss how we have sucked and anticipate further sucking on the board designated for discussing Arkansas athletics.

That doesn't mean a negative attitude and it certainly doesn't mean said attitude is "affecting" any of us. I generally don't think about the Hogs unless I'm bored and make the message board circuit. (Which in its own way is a little sad because this time in years past my thoughts would have been dominated by the upcoming season.)

I think we will suck until we get a go getter money grabber and check casher for an AD. That realizes everything runs through the big 3… but he also has to be able to explain if we are good the enrollment goes up to the chancellors and presidents.

It doesn’t really matter who the coach is until that happens. That’s why I said Houston Nutt and Pittman could have been glad hand men as liaison to the AD or something.

And by suck I mean we could have a 9-10 win season but it will be a fall off the next year. Nothing sustained.

That is what Silverfied is doing.

He has a bachelors in economics. His father was a real estate developer. He knows the money game.

The only thing Nutt is good at is running his mouth and isn't educated about the subject.

Pittman doesn't have a clue and wouldn't have much to say.

Silverfied helped get the name to the stadium and the money. He is trying to get the Waltons involved.

I have a BA in Economics. It's pretty meaningless. That's why I transitioned to tech. I didn't want the extra seven years to make economics education viable.

I don't think MC=MR is going to help anyone raise money.

His personality will and his upbringing that dealt with finances doesn't hurt.

He understands it better than Yuracheck which is a very low bar.

Also John Frank Broyles came from a family that was in the insurance business. So both know money and raise funds.

This is a far better argument than the degree.

If this is just the bachelors, I'm here to tell you as a subject matter expert that a Bachelors in Econ is meaningless to this discussion. Both in knowledge and in perception. Absolutely nobody respects an undergrad econ degree. Finance would be better, but still largely irrelevant. If he has a family history or a pre-football history that I'm unaware of of having to interact with big money, then that would be more relevant.

It's going to come down to whether he can sell the Arkansas Football product as a good investment. Either in terms of actual return or in terms of social return.

I tend to agree a bach in econ is a minimal qualification. Even Bryce 'Erf Flat' Mitchell has an econ ba

UNF

The Silverfied Group

Also Ryan Silverfied is the first Jewish head football coach in program history.
