Cignetti is a one-of-a-kind anamoly. He proved what everyone once thought was impossible could be done in short order, but he's not a realistic goal.
The goal is to not waste four to five years on a 6–6 coach and say "these rebuilds take time" with a straight face. Petrino 1.0 had a bad, but competitive first year, an acceptable second year, and years three and four were reaping the rewards. I'm not saying we should expect 11–2 every year, but we somehow started buying that missing a bowl 50% of the time is just the way it goes, and 9 wins is a coup.

I agree. Petrino showed us we were right about Arkansas' potential. And I think the NIL gives us an even better chance, but it will take an excellent coach with an eye for talent. There is ZERO reason for us to settle for less when Indiana can win a NC in football. NC's are incredibly hard to come by but we should be competitive and at least strive to make the playoffs from time to time.

Petrino would have had us 7-5/8-4/9-3 every year.
I don't see why Silverfied can't do the same and so far doesn't have the negative traits that has doomed previous head coaches here.
I don't see the talent difference between the Bert, Chad and Pittman teams compared to Petrino except he was a bit more depth heavy on offense.
Now it didn't start getting bad until last year when Arkansas was getting blue light specials from the portal and it was all on defense.
Arkansas should be good enough to avoid losing seasons every year.
Arkansas from the Broyles, Holtz and Hatfield years went almost 25 years without a losing season.

Chad went 14-22 at SMU.
The Arkansas media did what it could to shine that turd as much as possible.
It was was and it turned out to be a terrible hire.
That was disaster right after the Colorado State game.
He wasn't hired by an AD because Arkansas fired long just weeks before firing Bert. Arkansas went full retard because you don't fire the AD and fire the head coach a few weeks later and expect things to run smoothly.
Pittman wasn't the idiot that Chad was but didn't have the stamina to be a head coach. Pittman didn't expect to get a call from Arkansas and it just shows how poorly run Arkansas was when they could have contacted thousands of head coaches that had real experience.
Fans like to blame Yuracheck for just about everything and he does deserve some criticism. But you must keep in mind that he is doing the will of individuals that pay for his salary and he is just nothing more than a puppet.
You didn't have that with Broyles and this is why Arkansas in the past was competent and solid. Unlike now the dysfunction that keeps on going today.

I think you underestimate the crash out from Petrino controlled programs.
Louisville 2.0 and Arkansas 2.0 both crashed and burned hard at the end.
You can lay it all at the feet of Pittman but looking at the NIL allocation being the majority to offense and the preseason in fighting between the defensive staff and Petrino, etc. it would have been the same result if Petrino was the official head coach.
Pitt obviously checked out when NIL became more important than recruiting, like Nutt he hired an OC to buy time. And like Nutt he hired a guy who the fanbase would rather have than him.
You would not have convinced me Muss would crash out as hard as he did his final year here and as bad as it has been at SC. The roster composition and rigidity during the season was as bad as the Pelphrey years and the program could have easily slipped back to this low had Tyson not hired a proven HOF head coach to right the ship.
I would agree with you that that should be the floor for Petrino here, but his rigidity in coaching would have led to a crash out and no ability for him to climb out of the hole when there. He still calls the offense exactly the same as he did 20 years ago, once the SEC figures you out and they will you better be willing to make a change if you want to stay in this league and Arkansas isn't leaving. Even Saban had to make changes to his approach on both sides of the ball while at Bama.

Bert was going to out Big10 the SEC, Chad was going to use his temu Gus offense even if he didn't have the personnel for it, Pitt was not going to coach the Oline since he was HC now.
Hardhead, rigid, afraid of change HCs do not win big, see also Arkansas baseball.
And when comparing to Indiana, you need to take into account the SEC doesn't allow a OOC schedule like that and the SEC is still superior middle-to bottom of the conferences. No easy weeks in league play.

Chad came in talking about how smart he was, how he coached every offense down to the veer and wishbone. He inherits a team assembled like Iowa in the B1G, instead of coaching them like they were put together, he tells them all they sucked hence why he was there and to put their fat asses on a diet.

Yurachek took the easy way out after he muffed the Kiffin hire.
Pittman tried to take the easy route to retirement when he hired Petrino, he probably thought that was 3-4 years easy, but Petrino crash out came early.
Yourachek was also caught by surprise by the crash out as he too planned to use a Petrino hire to coast to retirement, but he was unable to win a couple games to sell the "we back" narrative. By the time he realized it wasn't going to be an easy sell, LSU, Florida, and Auburn are open and he has his pants down.

Yes it would be a bad hire. Besides his offense, he doesn't have the aptitude to be successful in the era of NIL.
Now rewind the clock and April 2012 doesn't happen then Petrino would have Arkansas in the top 25 every season.
Arkansas broke Muss. The pressure got him. He was doing just fine here until his second to last season when he failed to go on a final four run and he caught hell from hog fans as he had the best recruiting class in school history until this year. He signed a top 10 portal class the season after but he was ready to leave and just went through the motions.
Yes it wasn't for John Tyson, Arkansas would have made a stupid hire.

He had seven chances to prove to Arkansas that he was capable of being the head coach here. Win a few SEC games. Maybe just one, anything but a 0-8 SEC season.
What led me against his hiring was the State game. That was it and I was ready to move on.
The problem with Bert is that he underestimated the SEC and he overestimated his worth as a head coach. He didn't have the work ethic to be successful in the SEC and he was always a drinker but it got worse here than previous stops.

The first protest game was North Texas. I can remember on one play the offensive linemen all stood still as John Stephen Jones was sacked by eight North Texas players.
The second was Western Kentucky when the players allowed Ty Storey to run all over them and congratulated him after the game.
Maybe and he certainly didn't have a backup plan as pretty much everyone said no. Instead of going after realistic options, he wasted too much time on coaches that were a long shot and should have pivoted to plan B. Instead it's down to plan E and that gets you a Pittman.
I doubt he was the mastermind behind the hiring of Petrino. At this moment in time, he was expecting his termination to be very soon. But someone higher up on the food chain told his agent to hire Petrino and Pittman can keep his job.
Yuracheck should been fired after the 2023 season. He doesn't have assertiveness to be a good AD here like Frank. He allows himself to get bullied. You need an AD that can keep everyone in line and that has been an issue since 2006.

I'm just really, really, really hoping everyone is vastly underestimating Silverfield and he shuts us all up. I 100% support him and hope the best for him. Hate it for the guy to catch all the hell that lays at the feet of Yurachek and Long.
