Your OP title asked “coaches that bombed as AD”. I definitely would not say he bombed by any means. Your point on baseball and football NC’s is understood and I agree to an extent but the lack of those does not define his career. He certainly wasn’t perfect though. But who is?

As for the lawsuit, he lost it in the original case and in the appeal. But, yeah, the AD that made him the first black coach at a predominantly white Southern university was racist. Tempers flared, he was angry, and at the time he saw it how he saw it. Can’t blame him for all he put up with as a young man.

They are just that good!

Just based on results, it looks like Broyles was a better coach than AD.

Not sure what results you’re referring to here…

-43 NC’s
-57 SWC titles
-47 SEC titles
-Spearheaded our move to the SEC which, regardless of how the last decade plus has went in football, was a genius move.
-Made many elite coaching hires across multiple sports
-Spearheaded the modernization of our sports facilities including raising the money to do so.
- among other notable accomplishments

I still just use my pocket knife like I always have.
55% returning on our defense is about 45% too much.

Instead of them getting take back from yall, I wish they'd just give us a moment where one (or more) of our players doesn't make a bone headed play that likely costs is a championship.

Last I checked, winning 2 out of 3 is a series win.
Dang, I wish Texas would let loose of their pearls and legalize online sports gambling. I just don't get why any state would pass up on that kind of revenue in this day and age. Same for weed.

Apparently, they’ve been doing it for years in the NBA. I never realized until I heard it mentioned on the radio. I’m not a big NBA guy, but in the games I have watched, I never even noticed until I specifically looked for it after hearing that. Like it or not, it’s the way of the future. I can accept it, if it brings in the big bucks, and I’m creeping up on “get off my lawn” age.

Not since 1999. Congrats on finally climbing out from beneath that rock.

re: Lou Holtz has died

He was another national treasure and a true one of a kind.

I know there’s lots of wise as well as funny quotes from him. One of my favorites is the opening of his coaches show, after a 17-16 loss to severe underdog Rice, where he opened with “Welcome to the Lou Holtz show, unfortunately I’m Lou Holtz.” wish I could find video of it.

Another one of the greats gone but not forgotten.
Who is State's Mark Cuban? Without one of those, wouldn't have mattered no matter how good of a coach he is. Also, without a Cuban, a lot of those players that have been loyal to him since JMU probably aren't quite as loyal in today's environment.

Auburn is 12th in the country as far as additions on 247. We're 26th. Even on on3 their average transfer grade they've gained is higher than ours by a good margin.

I don't think the rankings are the be all, end all they may have once been, especially in the age of legal pay to play where we've already seen lots of mercenary players not living up to their rankings. Couple this with players dropping and/or rising in the rankings based off of where they commit to ( especially HS recruits) and rankings lose some of their importance.

Debating the validity of the ratings is fair, but I think we're throwing stones in a glass house by saying Auburn is fricked for signing guys from USF while our class is full of guys from programs like Howard, Ouchita Baptist, Memphis, Ohio, Middle Tennessee, Angelo State, ULL, Tulane, Georgia State, etc.

I think a lot of people don't understand the On3 rankings. Their own explanation says it's not a ranking of team vs team but rather a ranking of how much a team has improved their overall roster compared to the previous season.

"score to measure a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools. This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window."
