re: Ole Miss question

Arkansas, Ole Miss, State, South Carolina, Vandy, Kentucky, Missouri have always been schools that fans would normally circle and say "W" on their preseason picks, unless you were one of those schools, then it was a 50-50 game.

Alabama and Georgia were almost certain losses. At one time, Florida was a nearly certain loss.

With a few exceptions, Tennessee, LSU and Auburn were usually 50-50 games to the upper tier, although I'm sure Florida almost always views Tennessee as a win. They find a way to beat UT even when UT has a better team.

But any school could be a target. At any time.
Technically not true. I think you have to have at least 30 hours at Ole Miss to get an Ole Miss degree as a transfer.

I didn’t realize their school colors are the same as the confederate flag. It just keeps getting deeper.

Is that why they changed to baby blue, colors of the land shark?

I seem to recall Billy Brewer bringing in the light blue helmets. I believe that was from his era as a player.

I think Ole Miss has worked really hard to move away from that image and era, but old times are not easily forgotten. A lot of people want Col Reb brought back.

They stopped selling the Confederate flag on campus around 1983. That same year, or close to it, they had their first black cheerleader. It's been a gradual process of Reconstruction over the years.

Speaking of Confederates....

Aren't all cities seperated at least? Not by skin color at all..but pretty much every town has an upper class section, a middle class section, and a lower icome section..

People are tribal. We tend to form communities that are made up of people similar to ourselves. It's mostly cultural and economic. The same level in education, income, traditions and other cultural identifiers.

That's why we had Catholic, Jewish or Irish neighborhoods. It's just how humans tend to congregate.

Colonel Reb, too.. And while we're at it, let's bring back these band uniforms.

A date that will live in infamy.

Government only breaks things, never fixes anything.

Not fully historically inaccurate. Study the Great Depression. But if you study the history of the Corps of Engineers on the Mississippi River, you can see how the government can fully f$&k something up.

I think at this point, there will have to be some sort of government involvement to prevent the further erosion of college athletics.
Coaching was more of a fraternity in those days. A lot more mutual respect. I guess it still exists between some coaches. Saban and Smart were that way, but there's much less decorum today.
When we lived in Knoxville back in the 90's, I used to see them practice down at Sequoyah Park.
The landscape is changing around the revenue sports. Every program, even the best ones, are going to have a down year. Maybe a down period. Look at what happened to USC's once dominant program.

My guess is LSU will be on a vengeance tour next year. The governor will get involved and the money will be flowing.
OU is a good club. I didn't think we'd sweep them. This could be a high scoring affair.
Kavan was on fire yesterday. One of the most skilled pitchers I've seen. Never gets rattled.
And Goode is some kind of player. She doesn't get the attention that some of the other Texas players receive, but she's a steady glove, determined and a spark for that team.
Atwood seems to be seeing the ball much better. Nothing left the yard, but she's making solid contact and driving the ball.

That's one of the longest homers I've ever seen in college.
You can make a case for Spurrier as an SEC icon that won a national title as a coach and a Heisman as a player. He's a major figure in SEC history.

One of my kids was on the team when Coach Mac was there. He was a huge presence on that campus. He was ahead of his time in recruiting international athletes.

I was so proud of my child wearing one of the most recognized signets in track and field.

People don't think of T&F as a major sport. I get it. It's not a revenue sport in the NCAA. But when you go to an indoor meet in Fayetteville, you're going to watch some of the biggest names in international track and field and all of sports. Lagat, Lyles, Tyson Gay, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.
