During a press conference on Wednesday, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry made a statement that LSU athletic director Scott Woodward will not be selecting the next head coach to replace Brian Kelly.
quote:

"Scott Woodward is not selecting the next coach. Hell, I’d let Donald Trump select him before I’d let him do it."

"The Board of Supervisors is going to come up with a committee and they will find us a coach.”
Here are full comments about LSU from Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, per Ross Dellenger:
quote:

“My role is about the fiscal effect of firing a coach under a terrible contract. I care about what the tax payers' are on the hook on and I was not happy about raising ticket prices while we were having a losing season and we were paying a coach $100M and not getting results.”

“I think that it had gotten to the point that the spirit of the team needed a change and that change was made. We’re going to move on. We are without a president right now at LSU. I’m hoping the Board of Supervisors gets us one very quickly.”

“I hosted a meeting at the governor’s mansion to talk about the legalities, the cost, talk about who pays for it (the buyout) and what’s the effect of it. It was a meeting to discuss the legalities of the contract.”

“This is a pattern. The guy (Woodward) here now that wrote that contract cost A&M $77 million. Right now, we have a $53 million liability and we are not doing that again. Maybe we should let President Trump pick it. He loves winners.”

“We are going to pick a coach and make sure he’s successful and we are going to make sure he’s compensated properly and put metrics on it. I’m tired of rewarding failure in this country.”

“Scott Woodward is not selecting the next coach. Hell, I’d let Donald Trump select him before I’d let him do it. The Board of Supervisors is going to come up with a committee and find us a coach.”

“Yall reporters need to start looking at who represents these people. Woodward’s agent, Kelly’s agent… the Texas A&M (coach’s) agent. They all have the same agent. This is ridiculous. Lawyers would be disbarred the way these agents act. It’s time for the NCAA to put guardrails."

I 100% agree. My preference would be that the new president brings his own athletic director but this is not how you go about things. Seems like a very reckless thing to say. Also, very childish to explain this publicly. If Woodward is not going to hire the new coach, then let everything happen naturally. Don't blabbermouth to the public and publicly shame Woodward

We don’t have a president right now. Once we do then he shouldn’t be involved

Bro Woodward is going nowhere.... he has a women's basketball and two baseball nattys under his belt... OK, so he shite the bed on the football… You'll get another chance. The governor needs to worry about governing the state of Louisiana and stop trying to govern LSU.

Well that kills the LSU search. Why would, say, Lane Kiffin, go to LSU and involve himself in a situation where the Governor is meddling and complaining about costs of football contracts when he could go to the land of milk and honey, which would be pretty much any other state? I don’t see Florida, Pennsylvania, or Mississippi governors acting like this.

Landry must not want to get re-elected.

He has wet dreams of being in Trump’s administration. What he did today was reckless, self-serving, and moronic. The “metrics” comment just eliminated Kiffin and any other top name coach. We will hire a young, largely unproven coach. Landry needs to get Trump’s doo doo pit of hid ears.

This was obvious when he shoe-horned Trump's name into his rant 2 times.

Landry made a couple of true/valid statements. There should be METRICS on coach's contract and not just a moral clause. Then, he started lying his head off 1) Woodward was NOT responsible for the ridiculous extension of Jimbo's contract..the next AD was 2) the LA taxpayers are out $0.00 on Kelly's contract. And 3rd, not a lie but hypocritical to say the least. What happened to free enterprise related to agents. No one is holding a guy to ADs heads to force them to give coaches ridiculous contracts. Agents should be able to get the highest price possible for their clients. If you think the agent market is monopolized...became a GD agent then. Landry as usual is trying to make a political speech where it is 100% inappropriate...and he LIES like a Persian rug as proven above.

In the future if someone asks you how big LSU football is in the state of Louisiana just tell them the Gov discussed the coach hiring process during the announcement about Snap benefits due to the government shutdown.

Or....if someone asks you how out of touch the Governor of Louisiana is with the people he represents, just tell them he "discussed the coach hiring process during the announcement about Snap benefits due to the government shutdown."

One of the poorest states in the country and you want to meddle politics into our entertainment. Anything to deflect from actually doing your job in running the state government huh?
