During a press conference on Wednesday, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry made a statement that LSU athletic director Scott Woodward will not be selecting the next head coach to replace Brian Kelly.
quote:

"Scott Woodward is not selecting the next coach. Hell, I’d let Donald Trump select him before I’d let him do it."

"The Board of Supervisors is going to come up with a committee and they will find us a coach.”
Here are full comments about LSU from Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, per Ross Dellenger:
quote:

“My role is about the fiscal effect of firing a coach under a terrible contract. I care about what the tax payers' are on the hook on and I was not happy about raising ticket prices while we were having a losing season and we were paying a coach $100M and not getting results.”

“I think that it had gotten to the point that the spirit of the team needed a change and that change was made. We’re going to move on. We are without a president right now at LSU. I’m hoping the Board of Supervisors gets us one very quickly.”

“I hosted a meeting at the governor’s mansion to talk about the legalities, the cost, talk about who pays for it (the buyout) and what’s the effect of it. It was a meeting to discuss the legalities of the contract.”

“This is a pattern. The guy (Woodward) here now that wrote that contract cost A&M $77 million. Right now, we have a $53 million liability and we are not doing that again. Maybe we should let President Trump pick it. He loves winners.”

“We are going to pick a coach and make sure he’s successful and we are going to make sure he’s compensated properly and put metrics on it. I’m tired of rewarding failure in this country.”

“Scott Woodward is not selecting the next coach. Hell, I’d let Donald Trump select him before I’d let him do it. The Board of Supervisors is going to come up with a committee and find us a coach.”

“Yall reporters need to start looking at who represents these people. Woodward’s agent, Kelly’s agent… the Texas A&M (coach’s) agent. They all have the same agent. This is ridiculous. Lawyers would be disbarred the way these agents act. It’s time for the NCAA to put guardrails."

There's so much inaccuracy in what he says. If you are going to pretend that you are that passionate about it, then at least have someone on your team debrief you on the facts.

“My role is about the fiscal effect of firing a coach under a terrible contract. I care about what the tax payers' are on the hook on and I was not happy about raising ticket prices while we were having a losing season and we were paying a coach $100M and not getting results.”

LSU was 5-2 when they raised the price of tickets (not a losing season) and taxpayers are not on the hook for any of the buyout.

“This is a pattern. The guy (Woodward) here now that wrote that contract cost A&M $77 million. Right now, we have a $53 million liability and we are not doing that again. Maybe we should let President Trump pick it. He loves winners.”

Woodward actually gave JImbo a good contract that was front-loaded to get him to jump from FSU, but if the contract would not have been upped and extended by the new AD, would've had aTm in a pretty good place (middle of the SEC) in coach salary. Bjork is the reason for the big buyout. Also, invoking Trump's name twice in a 2 minute response shows you that this is Landry's M.O. He's reactionary and then associates with Trump to get the support for what he is saying.

“We are going to pick a coach and make sure he’s successful and we are going to make sure he’s compensated properly and put metrics on it. I’m tired of rewarding failure in this country.”

I now expect LSU to hire a coordinator that has minimal experience as a head coach. No coach that is in high demand is going to take a "prove-it" contract when they have other options. Expect to be disappointed with the hire.

Factually wrong. Trace Armstrong and Jimmy Sexton are not the same person.

If this clown show results in LSU making a subpar hire at football coach and AD, then Landry will be in trouble in the next election.

Way to go Jeff. Thank you for fixing Scott's $100 million mistake. Now, got get Nick for AD. The rest will take care of itself.

Damn at the Democrats on here!

This tard just assured LSU that it will be someone like Frank or Tulane’s coach. Then he’s going to be big mad if it doesn’t go well and he’s not re-elected.

I'm liking Tulane's coach after learning a lil more about him.

Notice how his Cajun accent gets more pronounced when he is trying to act tough. Sounds like Jasmine Crockett with her ghetto accent.
Landry is a liar. All politicians lie to us to some extent but I’ve found Landry to be worse than most. I voted for him. I did. I fell for his song and dance. I won’t vote for him again.

Landry got problems of his own, rising property taxes and rising insurance costs, when you get this under control maybe yiu can be a part of the LSU process

Mr Governor, these 10 year, 50+million buyouts are not going away if you want top shelf coaches. It is what it is now. If LSU doesn’t offer them, Florida, Penn State, etc. will. But hey, you do you and our silly asses will continue buying tickets and merchandise even if you hire Jerry Glanville for 4 million a year on a 3 year deal.

He is going to turn this into a bigger clown show than it already is... Acting like an agent with get a lawyer disbarred? Did a LOUISIANA politician just intimate that agents and and AD's are corrupt?!

That is a large glass house to be throwing rocks from... If LSU needs advice it is from someone successful and helpful, the Louisiana government is neither and hasn't been under either party for decades.

Sounds like a great idea to apply to Louisiana politicians
