At what point did we become this fanatical about politics? When did political affiliation become such a huge part of people’s identity that politics basically turned into sports fandom? There’s almost no room for nuance anymore. You can support someone and still admit they screwed something up. You can oppose someone and still acknowledge when they got something right. Neither requires you to abandon your principles. I used to believe conservatives were generally better about this and more willing to call out their own side when they thought it was wrong. The Trump era has certainly changed my perception of that. There’s a segment of his most devoted supporters who seemingly cannot tolerate any criticism of him whatsoever. Every criticism has to be defended, rationalized, or immediately answered with “but Biden” or “but Democrats.” What makes it even more frustrating is the complete lack of self-awareness about their own blind idolization of the guy. They’ll accuse everyone else of being brainwashed while treating virtually any criticism of Trump as a personal attack. You can agree with 90% of what he does and criticize the other 10%, and suddenly you’re the enemy. Gee, I wonder where they get that inability to handle criticism from. That’s the part I’ll never understand, wrapping your identity so tightly around a politician or political party that you lose the ability to look at individual issues with any nuance. You shouldn’t have to defend everything someone does just because you voted for them. Again…it’s pathetic

This is an important point. The title of this thread needs to be changed. I think we all know, no MAGA candidate has ever or will ever lose an election. If it happens (and I don’t think it will) it will be another example of Trump proving he’s only about Trump and not the Republican Party. He’s the reason you have an awful candidate like Paxton rather than a slam dunk winner (whatever you think about Cornyn). Paxton will be a lapdog for Trump, and that’s all he cares about. He basically told people to stay home in Georgia rather than vote in key Senate races telling them their vote didn’t matter because he was still throwing a tantrum because he lost to Biden in 2020. Cost the Republicans control of the Senate.
