The real answer to this question is no one. There have been great qbs in different systems with great results with no way to measure who was the best.

These greatest of all time threads in different sports are just opinions based on memories and not all the tangibles about systems and the composition of teams these players were working with. Too many different offensive strategies that don’t match up.

Would we think this way about them if they were on a less successful team or would they make that less successful team that much better?

The qbs mentioned were all very good in the situation they were in and no doubt contributed to their success, but calling one greater than another is not my cup of tea.

Tebow
Mayfield
Cam newton
Vince young

As far as program changing guys that could change any football game.

Peyton is not a candidate. 0 Heismans, 0 National Championships, 1 Conference Championship, and 0-3 in their biggest annual game against UF.

If it’s about titles then Tebow and McCarron but that doesn’t necessarily make for the best qb and for this category im not counting nfl.

I already said I don’t like ut and I don’t like Peyton Manning either but he was a very good college qb

I've always thought Tommie Frazier was hands-down the best college player I've ever seen at any position.

The fact that there was also a ton of talent around him made those teams nearly unstoppable...and literally unstoppable his senior year. We may never see that kind of dominance again.

Michael Vick not being anywhere in this thread is a travesty. Dude was the QB Cam Newton wishes he was.

Wuerffel is still the most decorated SEC QB of all-time.

I think I'm going Michael Vick....dude was a beast in College. Also, no west coasters on this list, they had some good QB's out there over the years. What about Hawaii and Timmy Chang...he was pretty spectacular throwing the ball around. He threw for over 17,000 yards in his career at Hawaii with not much of a supporting cast. Hard to say, Burrow had 1 great season but no one really knew who he was prior to that one season.

That I've saw:

Jim McMahon
Danny Wuerffel
Steve Young
Cam Newton
Tim Tebow
Doug Flutie
John elway
Tommy Frazier
Drew Bledsoe
David Klingler

Some of these guys didn't win championships but if you had put them on a team with complementary players they would have been unstoppable. TO THIS DAY I have never seen a finer passer than Jim McMahon in college.

Tim Tebow isn’t even in the top 10 of best QB of all time. Tebow is was one the best “athletes” of all time, but from a pure QB perspective, no!!!!!

I would think the best QB ever in college should have more than 1 good year. Burrow was great for 1 year. When you talk about career wise I would put Manning, Marino, Elway and Brees over Burrow when you talk about 3+ years combined.

Tracy Ham would have been amazing in the current era spread offenses.

But 3-1 against Bama. Also he was fricked out of the heisman his Junior and Senior year, Charles Woodson was a great player. But he had no business winning the Heisman. He was hands down the best defensive player in the country. But the Heisman should have gone to Manning.

Look at the downvotes, a lot of them didn't understand that I didn't mention Joe because I was giving OP some more choices that he specially asked for.

If your going to make a list of college QBS , then is it just college or NFL; because if it’s both then Tebow , Frazier, Young, and Ward don’t belong.. but if it’s just college; then you may want to check the stats…. Cause Aaron Murray was better than Peyton and Eli! His defense just let him down in 2012 in the SECCG.. could stop the run in the second half..
