Thanks again for getting these threads going with all the nicely organized info. It's always good fun going back and forth with you as well.

Exactly. Nobody is going to argue that OU is not the gold standard in softball. This was a David slaying Goliath situation. I’m happy for State. I think most SEC fanbases minus Ole Miss pull for them when not playing their team.

That's cool. I'll definitely be pulling for them.

Gonna pull for Arizona State immediately though. A Texas loss would brighten the day considerably.

she is a fitting representative of bulldogs

Sam Ricketts is a first-class human being.

You got any stock tips?

I'm gonna guess, "Buy high, sell low."

That lefty pitched a gem.

She sure did. First time OU has been shut out since 2019. That's no small deal. And she did it in Norman. Basically accomplished the impossible. Look how overwhelmingly happy she is.
Nicely done, State. Go win the whole thing, Sam!

Oklahoma coach complains about everything

I've been complaining all game too, mostly about our performance, but still...
She's looking pretty brilliant today. Good for her making the most of a shitty injured season.
I think they said this State pitcher had 13 innings all season. They started her to throw OU off, probably for an inning or two. She might end up handing the Sooners their first shutout in 7 years.

She is the weakest hitter in the lineup, and has been filling in for Nelly MacEnroe-Marinas, who was a HUGE loss for OU.

Barker has been pretty solid at 3rd. Glad we've had her after losing Nelly, but yeah, her bat sucks.
That would have been 3 straight homers in UCLA's stadium. If only...
Good pitching has been able to silence OU hitters all season. State has elite pitching, and they showed up today.

Something could happen...like the 7-run inning yesterday. But I've seen nothing so far this game to encourage me.
Looking pretty grim.

2015 was the last time OU didn't make the WCWS, losing the Super to Bama in Tuscaloosa.

So you could spend 1.5 on 3 or 4 top hitters and a good pitcher. Fill out the rest of the team with the other 500 thousand. Sounds about right.

Could be the right formula. I've certainly wondered how much Texas Tech spent last off-season to get all those other players around Canady. 3 or 4 million wouldn't shock me for the most expensive rosters.
Yeah, Canady has gotten a little over a million the last two years. From what I've observed, she is an extreme outlier.

I think great hitters get $300-400k a year. I would think the best pitchers would be in that range or slightly above it. I can also see that number going up this transfer season. If they're going to keep the strike zone as tiny as it's been this year, pitching is everything.

is Gasso implying the hit by pitch was intentional by State?

Not at all. It was clearly an accident. Gasso is still pissed about the foul off McDaneil's foot.

Wells hit in the head by a pitch. Leaving the game.

That looked bad at first. She looks to be recovering quickly. Let's hope.

Something has to spark the bats, or we're cooked. Just another day where they look half asleep at the plate and in the field. It's become far too common the last few weeks.

I don't know if it's the lack of someone like a Jayda Coleman to keep them fired up or something else, but they get into a lull and just look terrible.
Alyssa Parker has the potential to be something special with her speed differential. Berkley Zache has also impressed me. Both freshmen, so we'll see.

But I agree. They need to "process" a couple of pitchers off to the portal and break out the checkbook. They can afford a true ace or two.
quote:

...if you consider Lowry your ace, why isn't she pitching Friday and Sunday?

I think Lowry is just the ace by default, when OU really doesn't have anything close to one. Guachino has been better lots of times. Neither is consistent enough to have any confidence in.
Right, Ella is faster than she looks, but she's not fast. Boneheaded decision.
