Kavan does tend to step way up when it matters most.
I've seen quite a few people claim she gets more favorable strike zones in big games. Perhaps, but that's more likely due to both Kavan and Atwood shining in big games. Atwood is an excellent catcher who knows how to frame pitches.
A catcher like that is obviously worth their weight in gold, and others should take note and get better at the skill if they want the same advantage.
But good luck finding one with Atwood's arm and batting. Texas is going to miss her when she's gone.

Upon first glance, I have no immediate issues with the order of the top 16, nor with the order of top 4.
Texas got more of a bump up than I predicted they would for winning the SEC tournament -- or seemingly did, I should say, because I tend to downplay SOS because I don't like the NCAA's formula as much as others, and I should know better. It's not like they're suddenly going to start giving weight to, say, the Massey formula out of nowhere. By the metrics they're supposed to use, Texas absolutely earned the overall #2, and it likely wasn't all due to the conference tournament results.
Likewise, Bama earned the #1.
I'm interested in analyzing the entire top 32 just because they're actually seeded that far down for the first time. It'll take some time to go through it.
The only thing that immediately sticks out as being manipulated for ratings is the potential A&M @ Texas Super Regional, just because it happens between those two schools way too much to be coincidence.

Well done, Texas. Playing well at the right time to make a deep run into the WCWS.

If I were 10 or 12 years old, the last 5 years would probably carry a hell of a lot of weight with me. I've been around considerably longer, so...congratulations?
But then I've also always been into history and, in the case of college football, tradition. Tennessee is more than fine on both counts.
Going back to the original question, as an OU fan, they haven't been in the SEC long enough for inclusion in the "Big 6 (or 8)" to be important to me yet.
I can see saying they have to accomplish these things in the actual SEC before being recognized for membership in a distinctly SEC concept. But I also see the point of recognizing past accomplishments.
It's a pretty good topic for debate. I don't have strong feelings about it either way, but it's interesting to see how different people interpret such a thing.

Well done, Georgia!
No one can say this tournament has been boring so far. Lots of back-and-forth scores, lots of upsets.

UGA just looks so sharp. They could have folded down by 5, but they're playing at such a high level since midgame. They look like championship-level softball in every way.
And there's another run. 10 straight.

What's the story?
OU jumped out to a big lead, and I stupidly relaxed just a little. Georgia sensed that and made me pay in the 4th by tying it up all at once.
Not that I'm superstitious or anything.

Yes, I thought it was terrible putting Pickering behind Wells all weekend. That decision screwed Wells for sure. I was hoping the single and homer Pick hit, I think consecutively, would pull her out of her funk. Doesn't appear so thus far.

When Digby hit that one out, I immediately thought, "Didn't we just have to deal with her shite all weekend?" So I'm right there with ya.

Huge credit to UGA of course for that inning.

Yep. I know ERAs are up all over the country because of the tiny and inconsistent strike zones, but this is easily the worst pitching OU team I've seen in 15 years of watching softball.

It sucks that Wells is not getting any strikes, but that was A&M intentionally walking her last weekend, not Georgia. And we were also intentionally walking Perez.

I'm just watching on TV, but I thought the stadium looked quite nice and was wondering if it was pretty new or had just been recently renovated. I looked it up and saw that it's just a few years old...2013. You can tell it's well taken care of...very clean and tidy.

Sounds like a day well spent. I aim to be similarly productive today....and not even a tiny bit more.
I just turned the first game on in time to see Florida go up 6-5. Whatever happens, Auburn has made a hell of a run.
And yeah, that catch was unbelievable. Wow!

No kidding? I hadn't heard anything about .500 in conference. I thought the rule before was .500 against D1 competition.

They sure looked tough until what, the last month? Slumps can be a mystery, but I haven't been watching many of their games...just seeing scores.
I assume they'll still get a top-8 seed to host a Super....if they get that far.

Yeah, true. People are lazy, especially when it's not all that important. And going by what has worked for me, I assume each user gets to pick their own password.
Hopefully they don't see this and crack down.

It looks like the secsports.com website now links their scoreboard to statbroadcast which is so much better. About time.
I like the sound of that. Cool.
I usually keep statbroadcast up on the laptop with the game on the TV.
The downside is that it usually runs a bit ahead of the TV broadcast, so you get spoilers. Upside is when you're multitasking, at least you know when to look up and see a big play.
When the big tournament starts, statbroadcast often tries to enforce the fact that their site is meant for school/media members only, so they password protect it. We cracked it last year though.

I walked into the room right after that happened and didn't get a good look at the swing, but I did see Weekly go all "monthly" on the 3b ump.
Oh, and they just scored another. Should be challenged....
...and it will be.
...
...call reversed. 5th run taken away.
It's not a boring softball day, that's for sure.

Yep, that would guarantee at least a .500 record. Do all SEC teams who qualify for the tournament typically make it in?
