re: Softball Rankings - New #1

I hate to be such a stickler, but Softball America/On3 is still showing last week's poll on the page you linked. Oklahoma is, in fact, also #1 in the one that came out yesterday. Unanimous.

re: First OU Football Game Attended

Posted by umop sujoH on 6/29/24 at 4:23 pm
1990 Iowa State in Norman. First time OU lost to the Cyclones since 1961. I considered banning myself from attending games after that, but I've since been to far more victories than defeats, thankfully.

I think I was watching games before permanent memories were being formed. I can barely recall things from around the 1983 or '84 seasons, but it's sometimes hard to tell if those are actual live memories or just from rewatching highlights later. I definitely remember big chunks of the 1985 championship season.

re: Jeff Lebby lands in Starkville

I think Lebby is a good hire.

He's made some mistakes and baffling playcalls, sure, but all OCs do. More importantly, he's shown that he learns and corrects them.

His clock management has improved. He rarely ever goes hurry-up and three-and-out in 44 seconds while leading late anymore. And he did eventually stop calling the jet sweep just for funzies after it failed 38 out of 40 times. He just wanted to be absolutely certain it wasn't working. That's what I call thorough. Now we all know, thanks to him.

I'm kidding (sort of). I really do think he's a quality coach who will continue to master the game, and I hope he has success as a head coach.

I also have a lot of respect for Zac Selmon, and I don't think he would make that hire just as a favor to OU, where he will take over as AD in a few years. Right?

Again, kidding (mostly).

He wanted to be Mark Davis's barber but didn't quite have the chops.

I think we show off what’s under the hood this week.

Agreed. I expect both teams to open up the playbook in this game.

...or at least I hope Lebby has been fricking around and not showing everything thus far. Not much reason for he or Sark to hold back here.

I think those are all fair points. This is clearly not the UC of recent years...or even close. And no, Emory Jones is not good, but they do have some residual Fickell talent in places.

The Texas game should tell us a lot more about where (or whether) OU belongs in the rankings.
I think it's close. Texas' DL is nasty from what I've seen. It will not be easy going for OU by any means. Gabriel fricks up a lot more under pressure.

Toughest game on the schedule by a mile.
Saw? No. The first one I heard was the 1975 season opener against Oregon. Sooners won 62-7 and would eventually become back-to-back national champs by January.

It was very difficult to keep up with the play-by-play, as everything sounded muffled through the uterine lining, and I don't think my ears were fully developed yet. Plus I had a poor understanding of how the triple option worked.

But after I was born the following March, things got a whole lot easier.

The week before they played OU, they lost to Miami of Ohio for the first time in 15 years.

Cincinnati has been bad at red-zone offense their last two games. They outgained Miami 538 yards to 358 and had 30 first downs to Miami's 16. They move the ball when they have room but can't finish drives for TDs very well at all.

I'm not gonna spend too much time defending Cincy because they're not great, but they also aren't total crap. OU was favored by 13 at gametime and won by 14. So while it was lower-than-expected scoring for both teams, I wouldn't call it a massive disappointment.

UC's D-line is quite good...that part is true. Corleone in particular is a fricking monster as a RS sophomore and will easily be drafted on Day 1 if he keeps it up.

I still want to see a lot more out of OU's run game if I'm going to start believing that they can make an NY6 bowl or better this year.

I'm just thrilled to see OU playing its best defense in a long time with tons of young guys. Defense is fun again.
I hope some of these games turn out better than expected. Surely at least one will.

Start off flipping between KSU @ Mizzou and LSU @ Miss State

OU @ Tulsa

Tenn @ Fla

Wyo @ Tx

Maybe CSU @ CU until it stops being interesting.

Then probably either a movie or an early bed time.
No, it's not hard to believe that any fanbase of any size would have at least a few who would threaten a coach for any number of reasons. That shite happens. But he also has a proven history of lying about all kinds of things.

Even if someone did attempt to break into his house, what leads him to believe they were OU fans anyway? Were they wearing OU ski masks? And why wouldn't someone call the police?

He's absolutely full of shite about his meeting with the players. Stoops practically had to drag him in to talk with them at all. He was gonna leave without saying anything. And then the story goes that he cried like a little bitch (not unusual for him), and Demarco Murray called him a pussy. That's from multiple sources who were there, people I'd believe every time over a serial bullshitter like Riley.

I would love to see NU kick Colorado's fricking teeth in.

re: 5* DL Dominick McKinley

Congrats! I bet he turns out to be a good one.

I've heard that about the FA paperwork as well and didn't really know what to think about it.

It's interesting to think that some of these guys might take the NIL money while still in high school and then actually sign elsewhere, not that I have any reason to think that's the case here. But now that the legislation might be set up for such a thing, I wonder how long it'll be before someone takes advantage.

I certainly wouldn't have counted A&M out at any point. He is a 5* D-lineman after all.

I've heard the announcement is at 3:30 today. Does anyone know if there's a live stream of any kind to watch? I haven't seen anything about one.

"Trans A&M" kinda sounds like a UT-A&M collaboration. Say it ain't so!

Looks like most arrows are pointing to A&M at this late point in the game. Good luck to the kid, whatever his decision.

We've been traumatized by all the 5*s who flipped to another team under Riley. At least now we get to enjoy when it happens to him now...like the 6th one of the year apparently did today.

5* DTs are always heated battles anyway due to their rarity. The resulting coping and meltdowns are fun to read.

That said, I have no confidence in any predictions I've heard for McKinley so far. I'm hoping lots of opposing crystal balls start dropping over the next 18 to 20 hours just to see all the different reactions, predictable as they might be.
