I'm talking about when Kirby first arrived. Honest answers please

I didn’t think Kirby would recruit as well as he did. Up there with Saban pre-NIL and portal in recruiting. I did think he’d be really good, but not two titles good.

Not really comparable considering that was Kirby's first head coaching gig, and this Lane's 5th stop as a head coach.

Was, probably lane but only bc he’s been a head coach before. When kirby took over at uga the only thing we knew was he was good at running a defense under the best coach in the business. Lane we’ve seen have some success coaching a g5 and a mid tier p4 school. He flopped at his last major stop but that was before the saban rehab program. Is, would definitely be Kirby. He’s proven he can handle the pressures of an elite program

If lane couldn’t win the SEC at Ole Miss why would anyone think he could at LSU?

A question for you. Do you think people go to the circus because they are scared of the circus?

Gumps didn’t start a fraction of threads about Kirby going to Georgia compared to how many they’ve started about Lane going to LSU.
That much we know, for sure.

Ole Miss beat UGA 45-14 in Kirby's first year, and it was 45-0 late in the 3rd (this was a 5 win Ole Miss team so not a good one.) UGA could not have look less prepared or worse coached. After that game, I thought Kirby was gonna crash and burn quickly.
He didn't.
He didn't.

Ole boy just couldn’t help himself. You know hes been itching to comment on an LSU/Lane thread all day

I think everyone thought UGA was a sleeping giant and Kirby would get the most out of them. LSU can't really be classified as a sleeping giant because they have had recent success. Also, when Kirby first went to UGA you could truly stack a roster. With NIL and transfer portal, everything is much more balanced so unless it's say Cignetti going to a Texas, not sure any coach/university would be feared like it was several years ago.

At this point Ole Miss has similar resources in a superior school/city...

I don't fear Lane any more than our opposing fans should fear Sark. They are both mostly hype and neither have won a damn thing. Both are supposed to be "offensive gurus"..although I think Lane has done pretty well here. Sark is a fraud, as everyone but most Longhorn fans know.
I don't think either of them will ever win a title.
When Kirby was hired at Georgia I though it was a great hire. Then again, I also thought Tom Herman was a great hire so wtf do I know?

I'd say only about 10 percent of Georgia fans were like "frick yeah, we got Kirby Smart!" when Kirby was hired. I definitely was in the 90 percent. I can admit it.
Muschamp had already bottomed out, and back then Kirby and Muschamp were always tied together at hip and almost like the same person. Alabama assistants becoming head coaches in general didn't work very good back then.
The amount of sheer gay happiness from LSU fans when Kiffin was hired was higher than Georgia fans when Kirby was hired by at least a factor of 20.

I don't recall the college football media spending an entire offseason obsessively talking about Kirby and Georgia in 2016 like they're doing Lane and LSU now
I take the national media obsession with Lane and LSU as part pettiness on the media's part because they don't understand what actually went down and always seem to have a bias against LSU and part fear because I think they know deep down Louisiana and LSU's value when it comes to the sport and that this LSU football team and future LSU teams should basically be the Avengers of college football when you combine the talent and coaching staff
I've already dubbed the transfer class The Fab Forty
To Nick Saban's credit, he's actually been the only national sports media member to have kept a cool head in discussing all this whereas all the other media people keep resorting to the buzz words and narratives without any context
To Saban and Alabama's credit (despite I hate Alabama), they didn't throw a hissy fit like Ole Miss did and let Kirby and the defensive staff he was taking with him to UGA coach the natty game against Clemson
Karma and I hope it happens to Ole Miss and Petty Pete
