He's just not elite and he'll never win it all. It's a tough spot to be in. Can you really fire a guy who wins 9-10 games and find an elite coach willing to step in to that situation? Probably not. Not that I trust our ability to find "the guy" anyway. it's not like we have a long history of finding great head coaches.
Best outcome would be Sark bolting for the NFL. Maybe the next guy is better, maybe he's not. The great ones don't exactly grow on trees. I think even most horn fans can agree that if he looks lost again this year then it's never going to happen for him in Austin.

I mean don't think either was feared when hired... Kirby is now because there is no doubt he is an elite coach. Lane meanwhile failed at both USC and Tenn. So def do not fear him yet.
I think you are mistaking fear for the most interesting story for years in coaching. Entertainment is a much better word.

It’s 100% because of the drama that’s always surrounded Kiffin everywhere he’s been. Kirby didn’t bring a lot of baggage with him. Longtime and solid coordinator waiting on his alma mater to offer him the head job.

Nobody fears Lane. He’s a moody and emotional coach going to a moody and emotional team with a moody and emotional fanbase. It will take lightening in a bottle to win big. Prepare for up and down games and seasons.

There is no fear of Kiffin at LSU.
Did he change since arriving at LSU? Pretty sure he is the same coach that doesn’t kick field goals when he should take the points. Same coach that will go for it on 4th at his on end of the field. Same coach that burns bridges every few years and moves on to another school.
He is what he is. He can pretend but most understand his only priority in life is himself. It will never be LSU. Best predictor of future is the past.,,,

I think a coordinator leaving for a head coaching job is a lot easier for people to accept than a head coach leaving for another head coaching job, especially when he’s heading to a program that’s an annual opponent.

OK fair and it probably cost Ole Miss the 2025 national title by them barring him from coaching in the playoff when
he wanted to coach in the playoff AND
LSU would accommodate him doing so and paid all the offensive coaches their playoff bonuses
They (Ole Miss) let all the offensive coaches, who were technically LSU coaches then after the hire, coach the offense in the playoff but wouldn't let the head coach coach them
Make that make sense
They threw a hissy fit and probably cost themselves a title

That same classification gets applied to Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh, Carroll, etc
Saban was close to leaving Bama for Texas, that was an actual thing
and y'all say this about Coach Kiffin like it's some gotcha
The reason the aforementioned coaches get away with it reputation-wise is because they won titles
If Coach Kiffin wins a title at LSU, it should be forgiven or at least overlooked, people living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones

I guess they figured someone who knew the scheme had to be around to coach the offense. Get rid of the person most responsible for the shakeup and then stomach the presence of the rest out of necessity.
