You appear a bit insecure.
But the answer is no. My opinion is simply that it will end badly and that LSU fans will claim they never wanted Lane. He will be hated above all others in BR.
Thats my consensus.

Your LSU insecurity has warped your perspective. Kiffin is a good coach, he will have success. What is your definition of success though? NC or bust? Playoff semifinal? 8 wins?

He'll have success, but pairing a coach with a school that both have questionable ethics is not a recipe for sustained success.

I would think Tennessee would not take him back after pulling what he did. Then Alabama and Ole Miss and USC.
Tennessee was over a decade ago, and they seem to have finally righted the ship with Heupel.
USC- they now have Lincoln Riley, who you could say is basically Lane 2.0. Offensive genius, same as Lane. No drama... oh wait, he "fricked" Oklahoma over. I doubt the Sooners would take Riley back, either.
Ole Miss- they tried to keep him.
Alabama- he was a fricking OC there
Point is, colleges usually don't take coaches back after they leave them. They're running a business, and don't intend to be someone's backup plan.
And he apparently didn't need one, as he got to pick and choose between LSU and Florida (at the very least); schools with 3 national titles apiece in the past 3 decades. People say Florida State (3 titles in a similar, slightly longer timeframe) was chasing too. So, I'd say he was in pretty high demand, and in good career shape.

Kiffin will have about the same success as Kelly. I don’t really see any evidence or facts that lead me to believe that he should be more successful than Kelly

You all have the 4th highest NIL. LINK And live in a state where your governor would rather see another LA university close a college than miss the playoffs too many times.
So we all expect Kiffin to win, but not to your NIL top 4 finish slot.
Additionally, every coach you’ve had that put his brand above the program has failed.
Kiffin has done 1 consistent thing in every coaching stop - allow his agent to leak coaching rumors. Most of the time it distracts the team.
He is the the flirtatious woman. LSU is an elite brand, but nothing in comparison to how Kiffin views Kiffin.
I don’t care if he succeeds, I’m just enjoying the drama.

Does that about cover it?
Let's time travel back to when Brian Kelly was hired.
Lots of topics like this one. "Go on record: Brian Kelly won't win a title at LSU"
shite like that.
A lot of us told you that he'd probably be a reliable 9+ win guy who wouldn't win anything because he'd never won anything.
Now you've got another guy with decades of never winning anything and you're asking the same question.
Some self reflection is in order.

The Ole Miss baws I know all think Lane is only going to win 3-4 games this year, plus LSU will get the death penalty for sure.

Just want to make sure that everyone is on the same page about the board’s overwhelming belief that Kiffin will win nothing at LSU, barely win any games, won’t make the playoffs ever, and generally will go crazy and need to be institutionalized once he falls on his face. LSU has NO SHOT with this guy at the helm. Does that about cover it?
I don’t really think they believe it, but they’re damn sure hoping he fails. The fear is palpable.

I think Kiffin is a master recruiter and a pretty good coach. I see them being a perennial playoff team but in this day and age every school will have the opportunity to win it. Indiana changed it all for me. I think multiple coaches around country are better coaches than Kiffin but maybe not better recruiter

Relevant? because it speaks to his maturity? I mean he was old enough to know how to handle situations. But, he left after a single year. Now, that is not good, but forgivable. but he insisted Tennessee give all of the coaching staff raises, then leaves. So, he leaves and Tennessee is stuck with coaches making more money that the new coach may, or may not want. If the new coach comes in and doesn't want the left over coaches they either have to pay a higher buyout to them, or keep them.

There are a lot of schools that would not take Riley for being just like Lane. Lane 2.0. The way he did Oklahoma and having no defense.

Ole Miss- they tried to keep him.
Yeah. Think they would take him back? I mean...the whole point is that there is drama wherever he goes, and he leaves drama when he goes. Wait. Do you think there was no drama at those places?
quote:Yeah. And he got fired the week of a National Championship game, and also left off his own buses after a previous national Championship game. Think about it. His own team left him behind.
Alabama- he was a fricking OC there , let's not act like that was some bigtime job.

Look. I get it. LSU is thrilled to have him. Every other school he has been at was thrilled to have him. Most were thrilled when he left. He may very well be a great coach at LSU. If so, good for them. Chances are he will bring a lot of drama and controversy with him. If he wins LSU will accept his drama. If he doesn't it could get rough quick.
LSU
Florida
FSU
All schools going through very rough times and desperate for a coach.

It's interesting that people just assume the "shite will hit the fan". Most of the controversies and drama surrounding Kiffin seem to be the result of him leaving a job.
If you're saying you expect him to leave LSU and it to create a big mess, I get that.
But there isn't really a long history of Kiffin just creating problems within his current jobs, outside of tRant wishcasting.

I honestly haven’t given LSU any thought this offseason, and I doubt 80% of the rest of this board has either.

From what I've read on this board, Kiffin has no chance at LSU. He will leave LSU in the lurch just like he has other schools. He's hated for reasons I'll never understand. He will be suspended for the remainder of the season before it even starts. Those are just a few examples that I've learned.

I can't speak for you but to say 80% of this board hasn't thought about LSU this offseason is hilarious.

You mean like he blew OM up by winning more games in last season than any other coach in their history.Yea that makes sense, you can’t fix STUPID!!

Yeah. Think they would take him back?
Was he good or bad at Auburn? I'd say he was pretty damn good.

Alabama- he was a fricking OC there , let's not act like that was some bigtime job.
Yeah. And he got fired the week of a National Championship game
Right. Because he took a head coaching job, and was spending time on that too. Saban basically said if you can't spend 100% on Bama, you need to move on.
He went to FAU and produced a couple high-scoring, 11 win teams. Ole Miss, an SEC bottom feeder, didn't care about "drama", they wanted to win games. They hired him and he produced, he had 4 10+ win seasons in 6 years. UGA was the undisputed king of the SEC during this time, and Lane started zeroing in on how to beat them. He took (x) at QB and made him a star, with big numbers every year, including a D2 transfer backup last year. Took a castoff Jaxson Dart and made him into a 1st rd pick.
Ole Miss never cared about his drama or antics as long as he was their guy.
He made a business decision= LSU and Florida have higher ceilings than Ole Miss, and he's 50 now (51 actually). He could have stayed at Ole Miss and become their god, got a statue etc, and keep playing at a disadvantage vs the Ohio States of the world, or he could go to a program that has proven they can be the absolute best. He took the bigger job. He didn't decide the timing, actually Florida probably did by firing midseason. I think LSU moved then because they couldn't let Florida get a free run, decided he was the target and acted. BTW Penn State was also coach hunting, which gets ignored too.
You can call that "bad optics", but maybe to that coach, it was the opposite- we trashed the rest of the season and went all-in for him. He might see that as the commitment he wanted from his next job.
Who really cares if a school would hire someone back? Do you think Penn State would take James Franklin back? They fired him. Would Franklin go back there if offered? Does that make them a "drama" program? Franklin btw landed on his feet, he was signed to Va Tech before the bowls started. Kelly likely could have gone to a P4 somewhere, if he was willing to commit.
