Historically Lane's teams do better when he just shuts up and coaches.
He did all this crap preseason at UT and walked away 7-5.

Are you better at your job than you were in 2009?

Doesn't help that he is creating a shite ton of drama and distractions for his team, just days before kickoff of the season.
How much of a distraction is this for the team, realistically? I don't know, neither do you. Lane has done a couple of interviews on it, but I doubt this is some massive time suck, logically speaking.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone would consider USC an A+ job today. IN the past? Maybe. But not today. Did you see where they got roasted because nobody showed up for their season opening game?

Do you think Ole Miss would take Tommy Tuberville back after he left?
Was he good or bad at Auburn? I'd say he was pretty damn good.
You are missing the entire point. The point being that he burns bridges everywhere he goes. Ok. Most places.

Right. Because he took a head coaching job, and was spending time on that too. Saban basically said if you can't spend 100% on Bama, you need to move on.

This site is a PITA to search, but somewhere early in my posts, I commented:
my uncle was faculty at Michigan State, a department head. He said Saban was an a-hole, and the general consensus when he left was "don't let the door hit you in the arse".
I don't think Saban cared, he'd moved on.
BTW plenty of people here in BR who knew him, felt the same way. I knew an MD who was his neighbor, said he was one of the rudest people he'd ever met.

When Lane Kiffin went to USC, they were moving on from Pete Carroll, and it was one of the most desirable jobs in the country. That's an A+ job. It's irrelevant that they've fallen off now, we're talking about his decision at the time.

We are competing with each other. I don't want our coach helping to make Ole Miss, UGA, Alabama or anyone else better, once they are on contract with us. That's just more to overcome down the road.

That has not been the consensus. The consensus has been that the circus comes to town when Kiffin is your coach. And that is being proven true every day. The consensus is that he is a good coach but a shitty completely self centered jackass. And he has always left a trail of burned bridges behind him after every career stop.

I can't, right off the to of my head, think of anyone else. You have one example...but it's along the lines of "my uncle said"...with Kiffin it is all very public. There is a reason Michigan State (assuming the story is true...and i have no reason to doubt it, because Nick Saban was a lot of things but warm and fuzzy is not one of them) and other schools make a big show if amicable separations. It's because it affects school reputations...future recruiting....new coach searches, etc.
I think all I am saying and what most on this board is saying, is that past history tells us that there will be drama any time Kiffin is involved. I mean just take a look and try to name one other coach in which drama has followed around a coach everywhere he has been. Even now it is swirling around him. He thrives when there is drama. He lives to needle people and get reactions.
quote:How am i cherry picking? YOU brought up USC. I still would not have considered it an A+ job. You seem to be forgetting that the reason Carroll was leaving USC was because of the Reggie Bush cheating scandal. They were about to be hammered by sanctions along the lines of: Sanctions for the football team included postseason bans (2 years), scholarship losses (3 years), vacating old games (including a BCS Championship game), and disassociating with Reggie Bush.
Ok, you're cherry picking to support your argument.

The reputation and ability to recruit there was about to be severely hampered, so no. USC, in my opinion was not an A+ job. You can feel otherwise, but it just seemed to be a situation that would put a new coach in a position to fail spectacularly. And THAT was the situation at the time.

I agree and don't blame you for feeling that way. But Ole Miss and LSU fans have been sniping back and forth with LSU fans claiming Ole miss did him wrong, somehow.
