The P2 will breakaway and when the teams they want become available, nothing the Senate can do about it.

The Senate is only one house of Congress and can do very little on its own about anything.

If FSU gets AAU, why wouldn’t the Big 10 want them?

They’re a good school now and are the most watched not in the P2 outside of ND

This is if they are going to 2 conferences. In that case, I can't see Texas being the limit we go west.

Geographically, where would you stop?
If it's down to only 2 conferences, you don't worry about geography.

Let me ask you this, if you can take the ACC powers, and one of the conditions would be that Notre Dame comes along (they have ACC ties), do you ignore Notre Dame? I'd bring them in, because the alternative is they go to the Big 10. Notre Dame would be a dagger to the Big 10.

I'm looking at this like it's a game of Risk, the goal isn't 2 conferences. It's one, which replaces the NCAA at this level.

The government always can do something. Threaten schools with education funds and they will definitely back down.

UNC and UVa

Nobody else should be considered at all.

Would love to add these. Two new states and markets. Great schools, good athletics in "other sports", and UNC obviously has basketball and an enormously valuable brand. UVA has a hugely influential alumni base in the DC and Northeast markets.

I don't want Clemson or FSU.

So, Emory is going to jump from D-III all that to D-I. Okay.

I suppose they are going to start an FBS football team, too.

A post legislation southern Ivy League wouldn't be making primary membership decisions based on FBS football teams, they'd be operating more akin to the way the actual Ivy League does.

Whether Emory actually ends up a member or not of a hypothetical collegiate conference really makes no difference to me because Im not an alumni, but they certainly would fit from an academic profile standpoint and if they could get into that type of group I'm sure it would be worth fielding a low level football team.

FSU, Georgia Tech, Miami, Stanford, Cal, and Arizona State ---> Big 10

Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Duke ---> SEC

If GT had not been a charter member and bailed, would everyone consider them a better fit for the SEC? How much does the fact that Dodd's ego walked them out of the conference matter?

As a Dawg fan, I take no pleasure in saying this, but I think Brent Key will do a lot with them and it would not take much to get basketball turned around either with the guy they hired. Baseball is already a national contender.

Agreed! They are both flagship schools for the state they are in.

It was a great coup by the B1G, even Sankey would have jumped at the chance to add Los Angeles.
I think this fails in the end. The geography is horrible, the culture is horrible.
