re: Why did the Union not allow the Confederacy to secede without a war?

The firing on Ft Sumter gave the Union the excuse to invade the South. Before then, northern sentiment seemed to be let them go.
Succession was a terrible, reactionary idea.

Slavery was banned in the northwest territory. They had to pass stricter laws in 1851 because southerners would bring their slaves with them and use any method they could to circumvent the previous laws.

We did not own them or pass laws to keep them from voting. That's why they migrated north. I mean, you can spin it however you want, but they felt life was better in the north than where they came from.

The bigots and hate mongers and segregationist pigs in Ohio treated blacks like cattle and less than human for 39 years.
That's a long time to hate.
From the time the first football game was played by Ohio State in 1890 until 1929, THE Ohio State was dominated by African American hating sludge humans who didn't want any of 'dem coloreds on their lily white team.
Shameful.
The sheet wearing clowns had one half white/half black player in 1891 and then one fully black player, Julius Tyler, five years later and then the Klan dominated faculty and leadership of Ohio State decided they didn't want any more of "them Negro's" on the team again until 1929.
1891 compared to 1969? Again...
You have to sign and play black athletes to intergrade.
quote:I agree, QB play is more important than ever before now that it is an offensive game.
I've got some UK friends that are pretty pumped. I think his ability to develop QBs is going to serve the big blue well.
The timing could not be more perfect as basketball morale is low.

Playing against a black athlete don't count.

Wow, integration happened later than I thought. smh
Not a UK fan but UK's offense has yet to cross the 50-yard line.
I'm BS'n of course but he has created a lot of enthusiasm which that program needs. It is his recruiting that has everyone taking notice.

The hilarious part of this if it does occur is I guarantee you less than 1 in 3 SEC football players actually vote. If they allow some empty headed moron talk them into ruining golden goose that is SEC football; that will be the biggest self-own in sports history.
The new underground railroad to freedom in Columbus.
quote:The young people seem to be awakening. A migration of the best athletes would destroy the SEC.
I am boycotting my team. So just let me cut my own throat.
And there is no injustice. Practically every State has or is about to do the same thing.
Athletes who involve themselves in social politics usually does not end well for themselves.
If there is no SEC football this fall, I will be just fine. Plenty of other things for me to do on Saturdays.
So please go ahead and boycott.

Constantly getting your teeth kicked in by your rival would lead to hate. My brother hates Texas in sports but has UT friends.

What injustice? Not voting how you want?
It would be an honor for Ohio State to assist any of these young athletes in the fight against injustice. :usa:

Indiana made the schedule before they became a power but hopefully they will upgrade now that they are on top.
I have to give props to Florida for playing P4 teams.

Hey guys what’s yall take on this. I think with the SEC going to 9 games is great and adding that non con P4 requirement is more so a chess move

The SEC is the most boring and top-heavy conference in college football.
Now it down to only 2 teams and 1 of those has slipped, leaving it a 1 team league. I used to think the SEC was underpaid by its TV partners, now I believe it is overpaid and if ESPN were to drop the SEC it would struggle without the coverage and propaganda it receives.

Everyone is a potential feeder school to Ohio State. Coach lets the other guys take all the risks and if a player proves himself.

Bobby Bowden $crewed FSU when he had a chance to get in the SEC and blew it. FSU is going to continue to pay for that bad decision for years.
