What rally???? You mean the "PROTEST" the KKK had AGAINST The University of Mississippi??? Protesting against the university means Ole Miss might have been doing something right.

It takes a really magical type of moron to not understand this.

but they will always have a bad stigma to African American football players especially with the presence of the rebel flag.

The Rebel flag is no more prevalent at Ole Miss than at other schools now.

The majority of our team is black....just like most of every football team. So the stigma can't be that bad.

1) Alabama - History speaks for itself, in a pretty good spot for recruiting, administration will do whatever it takes to win

2) Florida - Location. History not close to Bama, as well as some schools below them on this list

3) LSU - Top dog in a talent rich state with few nearby OOS schools with the wherewithal to poach. Have endured some bad stretches in the past

4) Georgia - Arguably in the best recruiting location of all the SEC schools. Top dog in a very talent rich state (4th after FL, CA, TX) while also being very strong in Florida and the Carolinas. Downside is that the state is susceptible to nearby big dog OOS competition. Good history. Administration is sometimes hesitant to really spend the money to win big.

5) Texas A&M - Only SEC school in Texas. Great location for recruiting, obviously. Must compete with Texas and OOS schools for players, but will get theirs as long as they are winning. I have doubts about the higher level HS talent in Texas after watching the softness of the recent UT teams.

6) Auburn - Until last year, they have been a pretty consistent winner. They have a good location and strong following.

7) Tennessee - Tradition counts for something. Great facilities and fan following.

8) South Carolina

The rest don't really compare

Move UGA to 3 and USC to 6 bumping everyone else down and I agree. FWIW, the only real roadblock UGA has is the administration, you are being nice calling them "hesitant". If UGA had the same administration Bama has, we'd be #1.

Recounting past accomplishments doesn't answer this question. You will update your list if you consider the data:

Since entering the SEC, Texas A&M is now the preferred destination for most top Texas HS recruits.

Two thirds of the population in the SEC west footprint lives in Texas. Due to a booming economy, the annual population increase in Texas is 7 x the combined population increase for the states of Alabama, Louisiana. and Mississippi combined.

As evidenced by the commitment of over $450 million for football facility improvements, Texas A&M has the financial resources to win any facilities arms race.

All of these schools have always had these pros and cons. AU has always been in Alabama and Alabama has had more success than anybody going back to the 20's. Teams are gonna be good and teams are gonna be down but to say LSU is best built because they have no in-state rival hasn't really proven out over the years. Maybe the last 12 or so but until then LSU was 10 wins, 6 wins, 8 wins, 4 wins, 10 wins. Very up and down so having all the guys hasn't made that big of a difference over a 100 years. According to most LSU fans you ask, LSU's all-time best QB. Where was he from? I personally say that Tommy Hodson was the best but most younger people believe JR was. He wasn't home grown. That no rival thing hasn't proven out and neither has the Georgia thing. They get all the in-state guys that are better than Bama's high schoolers but Bama always wins with mostly Alabama grown players. Auburn is dead even with UGA in that series as well. Also, the high school football in Alabama has always taken a bad rap for who knows why. Most of our guys are from Alabama and has always been that way. Nobody is 100% all in-state kids. Our top high schools can compete with anybody's top programs. No good high school football in the state is a myth that I've never understood. UA is a good long term as anybody with or without AU in the state and history has proven that. 5,6 or even 10 seasons, good or bad, does not define a program and how strong it traditionally is. Look at the total of all coaches over time and that tells you. Also, Bama puts money in football and throws extra change at other sports. No other schools except maybe AU and UT do that. Most programs say football is king but money wise no schools spend almost exclusively on football as those 3 do. Huge advantage to have unlimited funds for recruiting, money for upgrades, training, coaches salaries, etc. Now if we could get basketball to do the same and get the tuition exchange program in place for baseball so we can get out of state kids school paid for and give our 12 schollies out as full rides (and not have 50% of our players from Ttwon area because they can live at home because of no schollie money we could compete in that.

This and theres no debating unless you are a homer or have hate for a certain school. Its hard to know with A&M since they just had there first 11 win season in how long? They have only been the in the conf for one year.

Ditto. Easy answer. Look to the past long-term success of the teams for the best programs.

Georgia fan - it sounds like there is a similarity with your administration and the Texas A&M administration during the RC Slocum era. The old Ags loved him and the still do - but the truth is he wasted A&M's chance to win a couple of Natty's because he cant coach offense. We had a cake schedule for abot a decade with the most brutal Defenses youve ever seen. Nobody ever scored on us. so we had like 10-1 years and would lose to Tulsa to stay out of Natty or tie SMU. We always lost Bowl games if we played an equal or better team. But we were hesitant to make a change. Finally we have new culture. Progressive, with emphasis on Branding.

It appears Ga. is having more success and against better comp. but seems like a similar situation.

Do you agree?

I think UG has the most profitable athletic dept in the country, but they'd rather sit on the money than spend what they could.

The SEC west fans patting their teams on the back are going to be sadly disappointed in their future.

Population growth in a state results in better recruits, more money and more success.

The SEC states add 1.1 million in population each year. 43% of the growth is in Texas and 50% of the growth is in SEC East states.

SEC west recruiters better get good at flipping OOS kids from Florida and Texas A&M.

No offense, but by this analysis Missouri was an EXTREMELY POOR alternative to taking a school from North Carolina or Virginia.
