A&M spent as much for their Football Only strength training facility as Bama spent on their facility for All Sports.

In addition the A&M facility has technology no other SEC team has.

Notice the Bama players trying to tap out during the A&M game?

The idea that Bama has any sort of Long Term competitive advantage is horsesh*t.

They have another pretty good SEC team in their state to compete with.

Not really. I did notice A&M's two choke jobs and their near 3rd one.

Perhaps, but it doesn't explain why A&M hasn't had anywhere near the success of Alabama, LSU, Tennessee and any number of schools with smaller talent pools and less money. It's great A&M is beefing up, but it remains to be proven.

You realize that just because Texas is not in the SEC you still have to compete with them for the best in-state talent, right? Not to mention the recent success of Baylor and TCU.

Alabama is used to this - they've had to compete with "another pretty good SEC team" in the state for, well, since we started football basically. Having Auburn in the same state isn't some new liability that took us by surprise.

Nearly 30% of ALL SEC championships over the last 80 years are held by ONE team, and they don't have a competitive edge? You, my friend, are FOS.
And I suppose Kentucky doesn't have one in basketball either.

South Carolina 1/3 (in-state talent and Clemson)

If you think the state of SC lacks sufficient talent then you might want to do some actual research.

As for Clempson, as long as they're in the ACC they won't present as much as a problem as SEC schools in the same state (Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee).

These lists are fun but of course no one will agree.

To me the key is LONG TERM success. When talking long term things like recent history and brand are far less important. Programs rise and fall, especially if they don't have the fundamentals in terms of population base, recruiting base, money, alumni size, and academic prowess behind them.

Long term I see it this way:

1. Florida
2. A&M
3. Georgia
4. Bama
5. LSU
6. UT
7. Auburn
8. USC
9. Mizzou
10. Ole Miss
11. Arky
12. State
13. UK
14. Vandy

BTW, some of you need to realize when bagging on A&M that when you talk about how much we have sucked in the last 15 years it actually strengthens this argument. A&M hasn't won a conf title since '98 and a Natty since '39 and yet we are going toe to toe with LSU, Bama, and UF all of which have multiple NC's in the last decade. What do you think happens when A&M breaks through?

UF is built to last in similar fashion. Florida isn't as big as Texas but the recruiting quality is very close and growing. They also have huge numbers behind them. FSU is no Texas but FSU and Miami combined are probably similar in terms of competition level.

UGA, Bama, and LSU are all powerhouses with tremendous resources as well and Bama has by far the strongest brand. Still the fundamentals are much stronger at A&M and UF GOING FORWARD. Doesn't mean that those teams might not dominate the next 20 years, it just means they have to work harder to do it.

It''s really a shame that LSU is not even 3rd best in the west right now. All those built-in advantages and you're now middle of the pack?

Don't pay him any attention. He is a former longhorn cheerleader. He switched teams b/c his longhorns suck now. Go back to the more sports board you Texass fan.
